Hospital Denies Mom Food Because She Isn't Breastfeeding

If you thought you've seen it all in the never-ending battle of breastfeeding versus formula feeding, I'd like to present to you the mother who was denied free hospital food because she wasn't nursing. A mother of three accompanied her 5-month-old baby to the pediatric ward, where he was admitted for a lung infection, and when the staff was made aware that she wasn't breastfeeding, they informed her that she could have some toast in the morning, but beyond that, she'd have to pay for any food she wanted -- which isn't the case for mothers who nurse. "Because you're not breastfeeding, you won't get meals here," the mom who wishes to remain nameless said she was told. And the thing that bothered her the most, more than the ridiculous policy, was the fact that she had to leave her recovering infant son alone to go get herself some food.

"For me to go and get some decent food, I have to leave my child," she said. "I understand they are busy but that's why I think there's more reason to feed us so we don't have to leave our children." She recalled a particularly upsetting instance when she left her child and she returned to find him screaming. "It's not so easy on a mom who cares about her children to go and get herself some nutrition when you come back to an anxious, upset baby," she said.

And adding insult to injury is the fact that this particular mom wanted to nurse. Quite badly, actually, but it just didn't work out, due to severe food allergies and reflux. Bottle-feeding with prescription formula was the option that made the most sense for her family.

If this is this particular hospital's attempt at increasing breastfeeding, boy have they missed the mark. Denying the mother of a sick child food because she's using formula is almost too insane to even wrap my head around. This woman is being punished because breastfeeding didn't work out for her -- by a hospital. Aren't hospitals supposed to be places mothers feel comfortable and not "less than"? Mothers who formula feed their kids -- because something went wrong, or because they simply didn't feel like nursing -- get enough crap for other women already. (And, yes, I breastfed in case you're wondering.)

This needs to stop. Yes, there have been countless studies, touting the benefits of breastfeeding, but not everyone is going to do it. Let's all just deal with that fact and move on. A hospital forcing a mother to leave her sick child because she bottle-feeds is not the way to get more moms to nurse. In fact, it only fuels the fire of this never-ending battle.

Baby Decides Mom's Choice of Hospital Birth Wasn't a Good Idea

You could have what you think is an iron-clad birth plan. Maybe you have a doula and midwife and hypnobirthing plan. Perhaps you are ready for an epidural while wearing a hospital gown. But we all know that babies have their own birth plan. A plan we know nothing about.

Just like the kid who clearly wanted a Slurpee as their first drink and decided to be born outside of a 7-Eleven, Sheila Wallace's baby wanted nothing to do with a hospital or even home birth.

This baby wanted to stand out. The 31-year-old mother gave birth in the parking lot of the hospital. She arrived at St. Joseph's in Chippewa Falls, WI, at around 11 a.m. after having contractions in the morning. Her water broke at home but she wanted to get to the hospital. Luckily Sheila's mom Roxanne Dachel was with her. Husband Raleigh was at work. 

Sheila's words to her mom during that drive to the hospital were: "We’re fine mom. We’re not going to have this kid in the car." Baby girl McKenzie knew that was true, too. She wanted to be born outside the car. As soon as grandma parked and Sheila stepped out, she felt the urge to push and baby made her entrance. Grandma ran into the hospital to get help as Sheila birthed the baby right into her own arms. 

Within seconds it seemed everyone arrived. Nurses and doctors and proud papa Raleigh, all crowded around the car in the parking lot.

Sheila really believed she had more time. She has three kids already and with all of them she labored for at least four hours at this very same hospital. Not for baby McKenzie though. Her plan was quite different.

Mom and baby are doing fantastic! Congrats to the family and way to go McKenzie on your successful birth plan.

Amanda Bynes puede ser en Hospital psiquiátrico durante un tiempo muy largo

No hemos oído mucho de Amanda Bynes últimamente, pero todavía está siendo retenida en una institución psiquiátrica. Ella al parecer no realmente dejó las instalaciones en Los Angeles para el Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, según ha informado un par de semanas atrás. TMZ dice que la mujer con una peluca azul que parece Amanda no es ella y se vendieron una foto falsa, por lo menos según el abogado de la madre de Amanda. PERO. Parece que Amanda es ahora hacia ese centro--donde ella puede legalmente celebrarse para, escucha esto, hasta un año!

Sabíamos Amanda tenía serios problemas--posiblemente incluso esquizofrenia , pero médicos que solicitaron para mantenerla en la instalación durante un año, es que sus problemas son muy profundas. Eso es heckua mucho tiempo para que un juez está de acuerdo tener a alguien en una institución mental.

Dicho esto, parece que ella no puede gastar en realidad todo el tiempo allí. El plan es supuestamente para mantenerla en el centro de la UCLA durante dos meses y luego transferirla a casa de sus padres. Su madre ahora tiene tutela temporal sobre Amanda y puede tomar decisiones con respecto a su salud.

Pero la espera durante años debería significar que, si las cosas no salen, Amanda puede ser transferida legalmente al hospital.

En el pasado, Amanda ha tenido poco bueno que decir acerca de sus padres, así que me pregunto cómo que se desplegará. Ella ha recibido suficiente ayuda en el hospital que ella ahora puede vivir pacíficamente con ellos y seguir avanzando. ¿O estar bajo su techo nuevo activará sus viejos problemas?

You guyyyssss! He may be a major Hollywood hottie who's all kinds of sexy and mysterious -- but after hearing that Robert Pattinson visited the Children's Hospital in Los Angeles to brighten the day for some young fans, it's impossible not to be even more crazy about him.

He went to the hospital and surprised the patients by doing arts and crafts with them (OMG, he's crafty), and he also signed autographs and took pics with the kids.

And now we're all wondering where in the heck he's been hiding this softer, more human side of himself (no vampire pun intended.)

Even though many of us love and adore Rob, he does tend to come off as a bit standoffish and cold at times when he's out and about in public. He seems like the type who keeps to himself and doesn't like to put too much of his private life on display -- but who knew he had such a kind, selfless, caring personality underneath his stunning good looks?!?

He really needs to think about letting this side come out a little more often -- not that we actually need a reason to adore him anymore than we already do.

Can you even imagine how thrilled those children must have been? And it's not like he's some random celebrity they've never heard of -- he's like, a really, really big deal.

Hmm. I hate to say it, but maybe breaking up with Kristen Stewart was the best thing that ever happened to Rob, especially if being on his own somehow prompted him to make such a thoughtful gesture towards those kids.

(Keep it up, Rob. The whole do-gooder thing really looks good on you.)

Jenelle Evans’ Son Needs Surgery, But Who's Taking Him to the Hospital?

Did you catch the scary rumor about Janelle Evans' son Jace getting surgery? The rumors are true ... well, sort of. First of all, the surgery hasn't happened yet. Last night Jenelle confirmed Jace is getting surgery on Thursday. And it's not as serious as it sounds, either. Jenelle tweeted, "his surgery for his ear tubes is scheduled this week on Thursday when my mom has the day off."

This is a common procedure many kids get done. It's usually outpatient, so Jace won't have to stay overnight. The procedure usually takes just 15 minutes, though you do have to go under anesthesia for it.

Ear tubes are a way to treat kids who get frequent ear infections due to fluids building up in the ear. The tube is placed in the middle ear to create an air passage, so fluids won't accumulate behind the eardrum. After six months to a year or so, the tubes just fall out, and the holes close on their own (though not always). I remember my sister had tubes put in her ears when she was about Jace's age.

But what is this about getting Jace's ear tubes when Jenelle's mother has the day off? I guess since grandma has custody, she's the one who has to take Jace for the surgery. He's probably on her insurance plan, and she would be the one to take care of the paperwork. Jenelle didn't say if she's coming along, too, that I could see. But we'd hope she would be there for her son. I think if you're getting surgery, even if it's something minor like this, you'd want to look back and remember that your mother was there with you.

Cámaras de seguridad captura a mamá dando a luz en el vestíbulo del Hospital (VIDEO)

¿Qué la sh * &? Confía en mí, que es la reacción que tendrá después de ver este video de una madre dando a luz en el piso en el vestíbulo de Jackson South Community Hospital en Miami.

Las imágenes del Calvario de Susana Privadafue capturada por una cámara de vigilancia de seguridad, y es absolutamente impactante, por decir lo menos.

Primero ves Susana y su marido, Carlos Saravia, llegar al hospital y subir hasta el mostrador de información. Está claro que ella está de lleno en trabajo basada en cómo ella pone su cabeza en el brazo de dolor.

Luego pone en el suelo porque ella no puede esperar más. Carlos procede a iniciar su bebé ahí en medio del vestíbulo mientras el trabajador detrás del mesa pide ayuda.

¿mencioné un amigo usando lo que parece ser peelings camina bien por ella y no molesta parar para echar una mano? (¿Qué pasa con eso?)

Echa un vistazo.

OMG. ¿Qué tan malo ¿sentiste por ella viendo ese video? Gracias a Dios ese hombre en la bata de laboratorio finalmente apareció y se apresuraron a su asistencia--lo contrario Carlos puede han terminó teniendo que hacer la entrega toda de sí mismo.

¿Y viste la parte donde descomprimió el bolso de su esposa y sacó lo que parecía ser una chaqueta por algo para envolver su recién nacido el bebéen? No podía creerlo. Uno pensaría que ya estaban en un HOSPITAL, alguien podría haber corrido hacia abajo con unas toallas o mantas o algo! Y sé que estaban en el vestíbulo cuando bajó el nacimiento, pero es aún chocante que un equipo de profesionales médicos no apareció inmediatamente después de que el trabajador de escritorio llamó para decir que había una mujer dando a luz en el puto piso!

(Lo siento. Esta historia está soplando mi mente un poco.)

Alanna Gallagher Murder Suspect Tyler Holder Thrown in Jail After Hospital Release

Tyler Holder, the 17-year-old suspected of raping and murdering 6-year-old Alanna Gallagher of Saginaw, Texas, has been released from the hospital and placed in prison. Holder was admitted to a hospital two weeks ago, after he suffered a non-lethal gunshot wound to the head during a shoot-out with police officers who were attempting to serve him a warrant for his arrest. Holder is currently being held in the Tarrant County Jail with a bail of $1 million.

If all the disgusting and horrifying accusations are true, it's a good thing he didn't die in a hospital. That's far too easy an out for him.

For those of you not up to date on this god-awful crime, Alanna Gallagher's body was found on the side of the road in a residential area, naked and bound in a tarp. Police suspect that Holder sexually assaulted and suffocated the young girl before disposing of her body like a piece of garbage. His DNA was reportedly linked to Gallagher, and he allegedly told neighbors that the body in the street belonged to Alanna before anyone else knew. When police approached him, he became belligerent and shot and injured one of the officers, in turn, getting himself shot.

I never thought I would hear myself say that I'm happy a person suspected of such a heinous crime is alive, but in this case, I am. If Holder is guilty of Gallagher's violent and brutal murder, he doesn't deserve to miss out on being publicly humiliated and shamed; thrown in prison; and at the end of the day, probably killed, because Texas, after all, is a state with the death penalty (and a state who has a history of exercising their right to capital punishment). Also, although a trial will obviously be incredibly painful for Gallagher's parents, it will probably offer them more closure than if Holder died in a police shoot-out.

In a situation like this, there is no justice that can really be served. After all, an innocent child was murdered in the positively most horrific way. But if things can be as difficult and painful for Holder throughout the process, I guess at least there's that.

Father-to-Be's Crazy Police Chase to Hospital Proves He’s Not Mature Enough to Be a Dad

When it comes to having a baby, there's a lot you have to worry about. Whether or not you'll get to the hospital on time is one. And dad-to-be panicking is another. Add getting to the hospital and dad-to-be panicking together and it can be a recipe for disaster! One man found himself on the wrong end of the law while racing to the hospital to see the birth of his child. The hitch? Mom was already in an ambulance. But that didn't stop dad from careening down the highway like he was in a remake of Smokey and the Bandit. And you won't believe how much law it took to finally get new dad to pull over!

It all started when a cop noticed a man speeding and zigzagging across freeway lanes in San Diego. The officer flashed his lights and tried to pull the car over, but Smokey just kept smokin' down the highway, refusing to slow down.

So the officer called for backup. More cop cars showed up and tried to pull him over to no avail, so a police helicopter was added to the mix. Starting to sound like a scene from Goodfellas.

Finally, police got ahead of the speeding car and set up a spike strip along the highway. Not an easy thing to do since you've got to catch your man but not spike every other car traveling on the road.

But it worked and the guy's tires were blown out. Cops descended with guns drawn. When he got out of the car, he admitted he had seen the cops and decided to ignore them. But he had an interesting excuse for his reckless driving.

His wife was in an ambulance on the way to the hospital and he wanted to be on time for the birth! Police were able to check and make sure his story was true. He wasn't charged, but could be later.

Hey, I admire his dedication to seeing his baby born, but really, dude? You had to endanger not only everyone else on the highway, and the cops, but yourself too?

Here's a clue, Smokey: Your wife needs you now. So does your baby. They don't need you dead. They don't need you in jail for killing or injuring someone else. Not to mention you could have pulled over and explained the situation and probably got a police escort.

Now you're a dad. You have a little person depending on you being alive.

Slow the hell down, bro.

2-Year-Old Cancer Patient Tapes 'Send Pizza' Sign on Hospital Window and Gets Overwhelming Response

Two-year-old Hazel Hammersley has cancer, a neuroblastoma tumor in her abdomen. On the Fourth of July, she was admitted to the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles for a fever. While there, Hazel's grandmother and mother came up with a brilliant idea for raising everyone's spirits: Tape the message "Send Pizza" on the hospital window. It was just a silly whim. But days later they started getting a lot of deliveries.

It all started when Hazel's grandmother told the story of the time she was in a hospital as a girl, and put a sign reading "send pizza" in her hospital window. That sounded like a fun idea, so Hazel's mother, Lauren, put up a sign of their own. A few days went by with nothing. But then someone posted a photo of the sign on Reddit -- and guess what happened next.

A lot of pizza happened, that's what. Over 20 pies arrived before the hospital finally had to request that no more pizzas be delivered. Meanwhile, Hazel and her family and friends enjoyed one of the happiest pizza parties ever.

I love how the online community rallied around this little girl. Isn't it amazing when strangers show that they care like this? How amazing -- not just for Hazel, but for her family and for all the other kids being treated at the hospital. Lauren is hoping the Hazel's pizza sign will raise awareness for childhood cancer. "We can use this opportunity to let people know that not enough research goes into how to treat our kids." I hope, also, this pizza party sends so much positive energy to Hazel and her family that she has a full recovery from her cancer.

Ayer, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, donde dio a luz Kim Kardashian, emitió un comunicado que el paciente 14 registros fueron "indebidamente acceso" entre el 18 de junio y el 24 de junio. Seis personas fueron disparadas sobre la violación: cuatro eran empleados de médicos de la comunidad que tienen privilegios de personal médico en el hospital, uno era un asistente médico de Cedars-Sinai, y uno era un asistente de investigación del estudiante sin pagar. Por supuesto hablamos de alguien que lleva una vida pública y que es--para bien o para mal--acostumbrado a sus momentos más privados siendo forraje de tabloide. Pero que no significa su historia clínica, los detalles de su entrega son fair game. También resulta desconcertante para cualquier paciente de Cedars-Sinai--famoso o no--que registros fueron "indebidamente acceso." Hay privacidad hospitales normas deben respetar, especialmente los hospitales en los ángeles que lamentablemente se han acostumbrado a las frecuentes infracciones de registros de pacientes, particularmente los registros de celebridad.
