Adult 'Children' Who Bring Their Parents to Job Interviews Need to Grow Up

job interviewRemember when you turned 18 and the delicious promise of a life unchained from the shackles of your parents was all you could think about? Or maybe your independent streak didn't strike until you graduated college and bought your first Ann Taylor business suit, which you wore once and only once on that job interview where you lied about your Excel skills?

Now imagine your mom or dad had accompanied you to your interview. And then, a year later, sat in at your professional review as you sheepishly tried to negotiate your salary up from pennies to quarters. Sound like the stuff of adolescent nightmares?

Not in this day and age of helicopter parenting

Some big employers are actually trying to appeal to their working Millennials' strong parental bonds by inviting moms and dads to interviews and salary negotiations and even sending cute notes home when their young workers achieve their sales goals.

Yep, sort of like report cards.

Companies like Northwestern Mutual claim that involving parents has become a common best practice that boosts morale among workers in their early 20s up to their (get this) early 30s.

To make matters even more sad, the sending home of progress reports to mommy and daddy actually works. According to Northwestern Mutual, more interns are meeting their sales goals than ever before because of these practices.

Okay, so first of all: a 22-year-old is not a child and a 30-year-old is -- no room for debate here -- definitely not a child. The fact that so many Millennials have been coddled to the point where they can't venture out into the work world without looking back over their shoulder to see if mom is smiling is depressing.

If I were to receive a letter from my daughter's employer asking me to sit in on her interview, I would respectfully decline. Then I would hope like hell my daughter doesn't absorb from this message that she is not fully her own woman and is being thought of as incapable of making her own decisions and holding her own as a professional.

Young adults are going to make mistakes. And they should perspire slightly before walking into an office -- alone -- to negotiate their salary. But at the end of the day, when they realize they've held their own before their boss and are solely responsible for improving their careers, the confidence and strength they'll gain is well worth the anxiety and few minutes of discomfort they'll experience.

Would you accompany your child to his or her job interview?

Now in what the heck were they thinking news, a Texas sign company has created quite the controversy by offering a truck decal depicting a kidnapping victim. The photographic image features a woman lying on her side, bound and tied, her blonde hair obscuring her face. The decal, which is meant to be slapped on the back of a tailgate, is incredibly realistic.

Hornet Signs, the company that put this out there, says that it’s meant to be an optical illusion, and they had no idea the amount of negative attention they’d receive!

"I wasn't expecting the reactions that we got, nor was it really anything we certainly condone or anything else," said Hornet Signs owner Brad Kolb. "But it was just something ... we had to put out there to see who notices it."

The sad part is that the publicity stunt seems to have worked -- Kolb claims that decal orders have increased since the controversy hit. Because nothing says, “Buy my product!” quite like making light of kidnapping victims and/or human trafficking.

With sickos like Ariel Castro in the news, you can bet the police aren’t too happy about the stunt either. The image is so lifelike that they’ve received a number calls from people afraid for the woman’s life. What a waste of time and resources for law enforcement, who could be out, you know, rescuing real victims.

While most people seem to be shocked and sickened by the decal, the company has received some support. One person said, “This American business owner has a decal that made the news. Like it or not, it works.”

I’m all for entrepreneurship and the free market, but geez Louise, can we please draw a line somewhere and keep a modicum of respect for our fellow human beings? There’s shock value, and then there’s just plain gross.

What do you think about the ‘kidnapping victim’ decal and the company that created it?

Teen Mom 3 castEver since MTV announced it had greenlighted a third spin-off from its popular 16 & Pregnant reality series, anticipation has been high for Teen Mom 3. It's been almost a full year since the network let slip which girls had made the cast, and now here we are: the show's premiere is just a few days away.

So what are we going to see when Briana DeJesus, Katie Yeager, Alex Sekella, and Mackenzie Douthit come together on-screen for the first time? The Stir got a sneak peek at the premiere episode.

Like Teen Mom and Teen Mom 2, the episode shifts between the four girls, tracking their relationships, jobs, and how they deal with their babies. There's drama -- plenty of it -- but there's one thing striking about all four girls.

None of them is like any of the other teenagers we've seen on the show so far. There's certainly no Jenelle Evans-type, no girl dropping her child on her mom and running out to party. Nor is there an Amber Portwood-type, no girl who seems hell-bent on blaming her problems on anyone but her.

More From The Stir: Alex Sekella Has No Plans to Act 'Stupid' -- Sorry, Jenelle Fans!

But there is one thing that's definitely the same: the teenage boys on Teen Mom 3 are every bit as troublesome as the teenage boys we've seen on previous episodes, perhaps more so. From Alex's boyfriend Matt McCann, who's fresh out of rehab but still seems perpetually stoned, to Katie's boyfriend Joey Maes, who gets into an accident with her car but can't be bothered to get the other driver's insurance info (even though it's his own aunt!), the daddies of Teen Mom 3 are all extremely immature ... and they're not afraid to show it on camera.

No matter how good these girls try to be, these boys are sure to make this a dramatic season of Teen Mom.

Teen Mom 3 premieres on Monday, August 26, at 10 p.m. Check out the trailer:

Who do you watch the shows for? The girls or the boys?

Rihanna's New Bikini Photos Bring Up Some Major Self Esteem Questions

RihannaDo you follow Rihanna on Instagram? If you do, you've been allowed front row access to her bikini show over the past few weeks. The singer recently headed down to Barbados for some much-needed R&R and has made it VERY clear that she has no shame in posting photo after photo of her half-naked body. Yup, bathing suit after bathing suit, front to back -- it's not exactly surprising that the "Umbrella" singer is starting to get a little bit of flack for her constant stream of bikini shots.

Comments on her "big thighs." Haters saying that she's "not that skinny," and others calling her a "little boy," referring to her small chest size. Sure, Rihanna has more than nine million followers. Mean comments such as these are gonna happen.

But what about the rest of us? Is there something to say for the fat-shaming and negative comments women open themselves up to when posting these kind of photo on social media platforms?

The bigger question: Is it an unhealthy habit?

Working out is something a lot of us do. It's something that I'm sure you, your friends, your family, or someone else you know loves to talk about on all forms of social media. Heck, I'm definitely guilty. However, it's one thing to post a view from the end of a long run, saying that you beat your personal best. It's another to post bikini shots like Ri Ri over here.

Whether you're a major celebrity or not, people love to criticize. As someone who's lost give-or-take 70 pounds since college, I know how rough it can be. If you're willing to put photos of yourself online, then understand the risks that come along with it. If you're posting photos of your bikini bod looking for praise, then you have to accept right off the bat that you may not get that.

I can't help but think in the struggle that is body image, it's better for common folk like you and me to find positive reinforcement in other places. Look to inspiring words from your favorite celebrities. Maybe join a running club and gain energy from the positivity there. Being healthy is about so much more than just how you look, it's about how you feel. Don't rely on other people to provide that sense of confidence for you, find it yourself.

Do you think Rihanna cares what anyone has to say about her? Would you?
