Now in what the heck were they thinking news, a Texas sign company has created quite the controversy by offering a truck decal depicting a kidnapping victim. The photographic image features a woman lying on her side, bound and tied, her blonde hair obscuring her face. The decal, which is meant to be slapped on the back of a tailgate, is incredibly realistic.

Hornet Signs, the company that put this out there, says that it’s meant to be an optical illusion, and they had no idea the amount of negative attention they’d receive!

"I wasn't expecting the reactions that we got, nor was it really anything we certainly condone or anything else," said Hornet Signs owner Brad Kolb. "But it was just something ... we had to put out there to see who notices it."

The sad part is that the publicity stunt seems to have worked -- Kolb claims that decal orders have increased since the controversy hit. Because nothing says, “Buy my product!” quite like making light of kidnapping victims and/or human trafficking.

With sickos like Ariel Castro in the news, you can bet the police aren’t too happy about the stunt either. The image is so lifelike that they’ve received a number calls from people afraid for the woman’s life. What a waste of time and resources for law enforcement, who could be out, you know, rescuing real victims.

While most people seem to be shocked and sickened by the decal, the company has received some support. One person said, “This American business owner has a decal that made the news. Like it or not, it works.”

I’m all for entrepreneurship and the free market, but geez Louise, can we please draw a line somewhere and keep a modicum of respect for our fellow human beings? There’s shock value, and then there’s just plain gross.

What do you think about the ‘kidnapping victim’ decal and the company that created it?

grind coffee bar

starbucks cupsStarbucks is again making headlines for something certainly less than savory, and this time it sounds like what happened could really be a worrisome new low ... A new lawsuit against the company claims that employees at multiple NYC locations ridiculed and refused service to deaf customers -- and the company did close to nothing to rectify the situation. Apparently, hours before one shop was supposed to close for the evening, a group of deaf patrons who met there regularly were told they had to move to a different section; the area was to be cleaned, employees said, according to the suit. But when the customers complied, "the Starbucks employees proceeded to allow non-deaf customers into that area and did not clean the area."

Cringe-worthingly enough, that's not all ... The deaf customers say they were also refused service. Agh.

Several months later at that same location, employees allegedly called the police to cite a disturbance by the deaf customers, but the cops saw no indication that was true. The patrons complained to corporate and, in response, were given ... a gift card. Grrreat! They say that the company didn't investigate what had happened.

And as if that wasn't enough, the complaint also claims another deaf customer was laughed at and told "he sounded funny." The customer asked to speak to the manager, prompting the employee to curse at him before multiple workers told him to leave. What in the world ...?!

The plaintiffs want an injunction as well as damages. Obviously, Starbucks says they're now investigating what happened. Here's hoping they get to the bottom of it, right whatever must be righted, and take the right steps to ensure incidents like these never happen (whether it's again or otherwise!).

What's your reaction to this lawsuit?

outback birthday chairEven if you're not a Facebook junkie, you most likely look forward to that one special day a year when your wall is filled with birthday wishes galore, one after the other. It's not exactly the same as a phone call or seeing that friend or family member in person, but a Facebook birthday wish -- especially a whole bunch of 'em -- can still give you some warm and fuzzy feelings. That's what Outback Steakhouse hopes to replicate when you celebrate your b-day at their restaurants ... They've got a new special "B-Day Chair," which syncs up to your Facebook account via iPad and gives you a hug for every birthday wish you've received. Haha! Yuuuup, its true!

Forget the cheesy serenades of a made-up birthday song or forced dancing around the restaurant whilst wearing a sombrero (that happened to me in my teens). Now, you get HUGS FROM A CHAIR! Bhahahaha.

Watch and be mesmerized by how it works ...

Yeah, so it's definitely a bit creepy ... And probably won't be popular with the kind of people who just want to go out for a low-key celebration of their birthday to drink some beers, eat a Bloomin' Onion with their buddies, and call it a night. But I'm sure there are Outback fans who are gonna get a real kick out of being felt up by a piece of furniture! Haha.

Oh, but it's also just a cute gimmick. Lots of bars/restaurants have their silly schtick to entice you to bring your big event their way. Whether that's a mechanical bull you can ride, Skee-ball, or a touchy-feely chair, you can celebrate your birthday at a restaurant with a goofy gimmick like this with memories of more than just eating and drinking to your heart's content!

What do you think of the "B-Day Chair"?
