kate middletonShortly after the official photo of Kate Middleton, Prince William, and Prince George was released, the world's least surprising thing happened: The dress the Duchess of Cambridge was wearing in the pic sold out. Because in order to become a princess, you need to dress like one.

Kate wore a dress by the British fashion label Séraphine, and if you're as big a Kate fan as you claim to be, you know that this is now the third time Kate has worn a Seraphine dress in the last few months. The style of the dress -- loose-fitting with a knot at the chest -- would look good on anyone. But the bright fuchsia color? Incorrect.

Kate Middleton has fantastic style, and I admit, I've definitely thought about buying a navy blue wrap dress after the royal engagement photo came out. But ... Kate Middleton would look good wrapped in tin foil. And tin foil would definitely sell out immediately if that's what she was wearing in the pic with Baby Cambridge. Just because Kate's wearing it doesn't mean it will look good on you! Sorry, not trying to be a meanie here (you're gorgeous!), but it's true!

This style dress would flatter pretty much anyone. But the color is too bright for a lot of complexions. So maybe consider picking up the dress, but just in a different color. Oh, wait. You can't. Because it's sold out.

Middleton, you and your sense of style have struck again!

Would you wear Kate's fuchsia dress?

Prince William Says the Royal Baby Takes After His Brother Harry

Kate Middleton, Prince WilliamPrince William gave his first interview since the birth of his son, Prince George, and he had some adorable, and unexpected, things to say about the little royal. One of the interesting things he said about PG is that the tyke already has a very formed personality -- and that it's like his uncle, Harry! Wills revealed:

He's a little bit of a rascal, let's put it that way! He either reminds me of my brother or me when I was younger, I'm not sure ... [He is] growing quite quickly actually. But he's a little fighter. He kind of, he wriggles around quite a lot. And he doesn't want to go to sleep that much, which is a little bit of a problem.

Hm, does this mean George will grow up to party naked in a Las Vegas hotel room?

One thing that's so interesting about babies is how quickly they develop their own personality. And you never quite know where it's going to come from. We tend to think our kids will be a perfect mixture of parents -- and inherit only the best qualities of both sides. But what if the kid gets the worst qualities of both sides?! Or gets the personality of some long-lost black sheep cousin? Yikes!

Prince Harry is a good guy but, let's face it, kind of the wild card in the family. There was the scandal after he dressed as a Nazi at a costume party. And who can forget his naked romp inside a Las Vegas hotel in January?

One of my friends has an adorable 2-year-old girl. She looks just like her mom. But it's clear she gets a lot of her personality from her dad. We joke that she even likes his favorite bar. But it's true! When we bring her there, she doesn't want to leave. She loves the place. So does he! She loves it even if he's not there. So weird.

Another friend was certain her baby was going to be just like her -- which was the last thing she wanted. She was a very troublesome youth and her baby was a real kicker inside the womb. Sure enough, baby came out a real screamer and a stubborn tantrum-thrower. Just like she used to be. "Oh God," she wailed. "Do I have to deal with myself until she's 16?!"

Hey, Harry isn't all bad. A little spice never hurt anyone. And Wills indicates that George may even be taking after him -- when he was younger. Crazy little kids can grow up to be sweet, even shy, adults. I've seen that happen too. As for myself, I take so little after either one of my parents that I often wonder where the hell I came from. On the other hand, I'm eerily similar to my paternal grandfather. (He and I have the exact same hands too, but that's another story.)

So what will Georgie be like? Whether he's like Harry or Wills, I think he'll be just fine. As long as he's not like Charles.

Haha. Joooooke.

How early could you tell your child's personality?

Kate Middleton May Be Breaking With Royal Baby Portrait Tradition in a Beautiful Way

kate middleton prince william prince georgeWe haven't seen Kate Middleton and Prince William since they stood outside of St. Mary's last month with tiny Prince George all bundled up in a cozy white blanket. But our next glimpse of the happy royal family may not be far off. What's more, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge may be passing on releasing a run-of-the-mill, traditional professional portrait, multiple sources told the Daily Mirror yesterday. Gasp!

A royal aide notes, "One of the options they are looking at is releasing a couple of family photos they have taken themselves. Kate has a great eye for pictures and wants the first official ones of George to be natural and in a relaxed environment." This way, they'd also be able to avoid the disruption to their routine that bringing a pro into their Bucklebury home would cause.

The royals are also planning to release the cozy snapshots on Twitter and their personal website as soon as next week, so that "as many people have access to them who need to," according to People.

Aww! Fingers crossed it's true! Because how awesome would that be?!

Of course, lay people often use formal photography to announce their little one's birth, but there's a case for using less polished, but more intimate family photos, too. They have a personal touch -- and for Kate and Wills to let us in that way and even go so far as to make those photos the official baby portrait is amazing.

Apparently, not everyone is a fan of the idea, though. HollywoodLife.com interviewed a royal source who explained that using home photos would be “fine for the private album,” but “not good for an historic first picture of a future monarch.” Pfft.

Who says? Maybe this is just one more way the royal couple wants to break with another stale, stuffy tradition and modernize the monarchy in a lovely way. If that is the case, more power to them.

Would you prefer to see a family photo or professional shot as the official royal baby portrait?

'Town Crier' at Royal Baby's Birth Was Just a Party Crasher Who Fooled Millions

Tony AppletonHey, remember that time the town crier announced the birth of the royal baby? He stood in front of St. Mary's Hospital, dressed in his traditional garb, gave a speech, rang his bell, and all the U.S. journalists standing in front of him were like, "Whuuuh? Nobody told me about this part." Well, he was just a party crasher. There was some on-air debate between reporters as to whether or not he was legit (I happened to be tuned in to Natalie Morales and Matt Lauer's back and forth -- they didn't think he was the real deal, FYI].) And, yep, turns out he's just a royal family superfan, like you and me.

Town criers. They're just like us.

His name is Tony Appleton, and he is a town crier, but he has no affiliation whatsoever with Kate Middleton, Prince William, or anyone in the royal family. He lives in Romford, England, not London, and he's a self-proclaimed "royalist". "I was not invited," Appleton told Yahoo in an interview. "I just crashed the party. I got out of my cab and I stood in front of the steps, because I didn't think I would be allowed on them, and I did my bit. It was great."

For those of you who missed Tony's bit, or were too confused to process what he was saying, here's what he read off his scroll:
On this day, the 22nd of July in the year 2013, we welcome, with honorable duty, a future king, the firstborn of Their Royal Highness the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the third in line to the throne. And our new prince is the third great-grandchild of Her Majesty the Queen and the grandchild of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. May he be long-lived, happy, and glorious, and one day reign over us. God save the Queen!
While it's slightly odd that Appleton decided to appoint himself the crier of the event, the guy didn't hurt anybody and he got to live out a dream. So that's cool. But I'm kind of wondering where security was. You'd think if a man or woman who wasn't supposed to be screaming crap started screaming crap, he or she would be hauled off. You'd think the guards would be informed of every little thing that was going to happen throughout the day. Everyone just stood there and watched Appleton -- and they let out a massive applause afterwards. Kinda weird.Thankfully, Tony wound up being a normal(ish) person who meant no ill-will to anyone. He simply wanted to get in on the festivities of the day and demonstrate his love for the royal family -- and demonstrate he did. This, for sure, will be one of the many things we remember when we look back at this moment in history.Tony Appleton, ladies and gentlemen.Did you think the town crier was real?Image via Jeff J Mitchell/GettyClick "Like" for more on the Royal Family.

The Royal Baby Name: The Queen Will Decide!

Queen ElizabethNow that Kate Middleton has given birth and showed off the brand new Prince of Cambridge to the world, we all have one burning question on our minds. When are we going to find out the royal baby name? The suspense is killing us, and we can only hope that she and Prince William choose something soon and share it with the rest of the world so we can all sleep at night. (Kidding. Sort of.)

But according to sources who are close to the Middleton family, Kate and Wills have selected a name -- but they have to run it by Queen Elizabeth and get her approval before it's officially given to their child.

Hmm. Her Majesty did go and visit her new great-grandson at Kensington Palace today -- so was there any sort of discussion about what to call the newest member of the family?

Maybe. But can you imagine how much pressure Prince William and Kate must be feeling over making sure they pick a name the Queen will approve of? (Ugh. What a drag.)

I mean, I know being part of the royal family comes with a whole host of traditions that must be followed, but still -- it's their baby, not the Queen's. Shouldn't they have the final say over what their son's name will be instead of letting his great-grandmother make the call?

My husband I and decided on our own son's name when I was about four or five months pregnant -- and there's no way we would've let our family members try and sway us in another direction if they didn't agree with it. We got very lucky in the fact that they all loved his name and still do to this day, but it would've been horrible to have our choice slammed when it was a name we had our hearts set on.

The general consensus seems to be that Kate and Prince William will choose a very traditional name for their child, like James or George. But considering what a modern couple they are, there is the chance that they'll want to go out on a limb and call the royal baby something more unique. (I vote for Spencer!) And what if they have the ideal name picked out, but the Queen totally shoots it down and forbids them to use it? That will really suck.

A mom and dad's first choice for a baby name is pretty tough thing to part with when they've already envisioned calling their little one something in particular, so for their sake, let's hope the Queen goes along with whatever they choose so everyone is happy and they can go on celebrating this joyous time in their lives.

Did anyone in your family try and influence your choice for a baby name?
