10 Reasons I Can't Be That Perfect Mom

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

I recently wrote about the 10 moms no one wants to get stuck talking to. Yes, there are many of "Those Moms," but I'm speaking of one we all know, the "perfect mom." She's president of the PTA, she plans all the fundraisers.  She bakes homemade goodies for bake sales. She has a position on every board. She recommends who should be room mom to all the teachers and you can pretty much call her for any bit of information. I like to joke that if you need anything changed, explained or rerouted you could call her and it would get done with meticulous speed and accuracy.

"Can you do something about the traffic on 95?" "How many reformers will they have at the new Pilates studio?" "Will I have to take a connecting flight on my trip to Utah?"

I also like to imagine that she walks around with a Tide Stain Stick, righting the wrongs of the slovenly.

As much as I would like to be involved in every facet of my child's life, I could never ever be that chick and here's why:

1. Perfect Mom is chipper and efficient 24/7

Her: By 6AM her coffee pot (which she set the night before) is half empty, she's already eaten and made a breakfast for her children that involves protein and food groups, and possibly a pan.

Me: I'm barely up in time for my children to make it to school without a mad rush to get out of the house.  At some point I throw a bowl of cereal in their general vicinity and we call it healthy if it the name of said cereal doesn't have the word sugar in the title.

2. Perfect Mom actually has her memory in tact.

Her: She is a veritable Rolodex -- remembering the name of every mother, teacher, administrator and child she's ever met. And she addresses each one by name and throws out a timely personal reference. "Hey, Joey how's it having a new baby sister around the house?"

Me: There are times when I see someone I've known for a decade, but for the life of me, I cannot recall their name.  I just stare blankly and stutter, give them the old "Hey honey," or I pretend someone's yelling for me and run away.

3.  Perfect Mom is clean and tidy.

Her: She is always showered and never arrives to a meeting or carpool in her pajamas.

Me: There are days that I rush to carpool in PJs and realize I haven't brushed my teeth since the night before. (PS This example may include afternoon carpool).

4. Perfect Mom is always thinking about education.

Her: When her family plays games, they are always educational. Counting apples, forming words, sliding down things, critical thinking with clay...

Me: We have a Guitar Hero battle of the bands, we have actual Dance revolutions, and I'm pretty certain game night involved black jack, poker, and gin rummy by the time my kids were 4.

5. Perfect Mom never wishes she had a personal assistant.

Her: She answers every text, email, and phone message as they come in, with perfect precision.

Me: I show up at most child's birthday parties and may hear this "Oh, I wish you'd RSVP'd I hope we have enough goodie bags."

6. Perfect Mom makes sure her children don't watch inane or inappropriate programs.

Her: She shows her children specials on the National Geographic channel and takes them to age appropriate flicks.

Me: I consider the watching of Big Brother to be an educational family event that teaches socialization and negotiation tactics. At least that's what I tell my kids when I shush them while it's on. And I showed them Airplane and other awesome slapstick classics at 6 years old because I thought it'd be fun to quote lines with them (it is).

7. Perfect Mom thinks Martha Stewart could do better.

Her: Not only does she run the school sales and other events, she hand makes the items to sell there, then dips them in her chocolate fount and rolls them in sprinkles -- whether it's a bake sale or a book fair. Yes, even books taste good smothered in chocolate.

Me: If you ask me to donate something to a bake sale, not only will I not bake it, I may enlist another mother to pick it up from the store for me. "What Kelly, you have to run to the store? Could you grab some Entenmann's?"

8. Perfect Mom started in the womb.

Her: Her kids are prepared for every test, project and homework assignment as she has worked with them since birth to ensure they are learning at a grade level far beyond their years. (Plus, I'm pretty sure she does most the projects for them.)

Me: I sign my kid's homework agendas and reading logs based on the honor system. Even though I'm pretty sure one of them is still illiterate (but, it's OK because I'm not certain).

9. Perfect Mom is punctual.

Her: She is always the first one at any meeting, event, function, or party (usually setting up). She may have 17 kids and still not one of them seems to make her a second late.

Me: I'm late for ridiculous reasons like, my kids are busy fighting over who the dog loves more, or I spent 20 minutes looking for my phone (which was in my hand).

10. Perfect Mom may be a robot.

Her: I'm quite certain that like Martha Stewart and Ryan Seacrest, she is some sort of robot, alien or vampire (that doesn't shimmer or burn in daylight). Having 24 hours a day to accomplish things would make anyone seem like a super hero. Well, that and a continuously running chocolate fount.

Me: I am simply human, sometimes I don't have a minute to shower, some meals my kids don't get all the nutrients on the food pyramid, sometimes we watch pointless reality tv and boo when the wrong people get voted off, but I do my best and they're pretty awesome, so something's working.

Can you keep up with Perfect Mom?

pancakeNow that the weather is cooling down (sigh), I think it's technically illegal to ingest foods that don't contain the ingredients pumpkin, cinnamon, apple, nutmeg, or caramel. So these Apple Pancakes With Caramel Syrup are the perfect way to stay within legal confines, and you basically get to have dessert for breakfast. They're delicious. Nutritious(ish). And fantastically easy to make.

Apple Pancakes With Caramel Syrup

Ingredients:

Pancakes:

1/4 cup butter, melted1 egg1 cup milk1 cup shredded tart apple1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon1 tablespoon white sugarSyrup:

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon1 tablespoon white sugar

Instructions:

Pancakes:

1. In a large bowl, combine butter, egg, milk and apple. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, cinnamon and sugar. Stir flour mixture into apple mixture, just until combined.

2. Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium high heat. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/4 cup for each pancake. Brown on both sides and serve hot.

Syrup:

Mix the brown sugar, half-and-half, butter and salt in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Cook while whisking gently for 5 to 7 minutes, until it gets thicker. Add the vanilla and cook another minute to thicken further. Drizzle over pancakes.

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

slow cooker beef stewOk ok, so it's not technically fall quite yet, but it is mid-September. The kids are back in school. There's football on TV. New television shows are premiering. It's time to put away the flip-flops. The leaves are changing. And the temperatures are cooling. So time to celebrate the coming of a new season with an easy, time-saving, delicious, savory beef stew made in a slow cooker. Sounds pretty awesome right about now, huh? And you can indulge a little since you don't have to worry about rocking that bikini until next summer (thank goodness).

Not only is fall a gorgeous time of year, it's the best to come home to the warm, inviting scents of classic comfort food. Of course, the best part of any beef stew is how versatile it is. Throw in any kind of vegetables you want, but after a day's worth of slow cooking, they're sure to taste amazing and perfectly complement the tender, juicy beef. Enjoy!

Slow Cooker Beef Stew from AllRecipes

2 pounds beef stew meat, cut into 1-inch cubes

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1 onion, chopped

1 1/2 cups beef broth

3 potatoes, diced

4 carrots, sliced

Scarlett Johansson's Relationship With Fiance Sounds Far From Perfect

AppId is over the quota

by Maressa Brown 14 hours ago

scarlett johansson romain dauriacGoing from Ryan Reynolds's wife to divorced to engaged to boyfriend Romain Dauriac over the course of the last five years, Scarlett Johansson may feel like she's been on a romance roller coaster. But she seems to have come off of the ride stronger than ever. The actress, who stars in the new flick Don Jon with Joseph Gordon-Levitt about a porn addict who dates a woman obsessed with romance films, opened up to E! recently about what she's learned about conflict in love ...

She admitted, "We all are guilty of holding our partner or our imaginary partner up to these standards that are sort of impossible to fulfill. It would be much easier if the people we fell in love with behaved the way we wanted them to!"

'Course that's raaarely the case! Ha. So how has she made peace with that?

ScarJo confessed:

I've learned over time that what makes life interesting, relationships interesting, are the complexities of relationships and people and the fact that we can become more evolved ourselves if we are forced to compromise and accept the differences amongst one another.

She is so, so right! Whether it's from movies or even conversations with our girlfriends, we're so brainwashed into thinking that life and relationships have the ability to be "perfect" and predictable, and a solid relationship means being in harmonious sync with your partner 24/7/365. Puhhleeez! The faster we learn that's BS, the better -- and the faster we embrace the rough patches that come with the territory of living alongside another human being, the happier we'll be overall!

I agree also that being able to work through your differences is a boon for us as individuals. Being in a healthfully complex relationship totally lends itself to helping you evolve, mature, have an even more enlightened perspective, etc.

Case in point: ScarJo! She sounds more sophisticated, grown-up, healthier, and happier than ever. Which I would think makes it safe to assume her relationship with her future husband Romain isn't necessarily always easy ... but sure is rewarding.

Do you agree with Scarlett that accepting the differences you have with your partner is better for your relationship -- and for you?

Emilia Clarke May Be the Perfect Anastasia Steele but ‘Game of Thrones’ Could Ruin It

Emilia ClarkeThere is one thing that I'm sick to death of: The rumors running rampant about casting Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie. Can't they just figure it out already??? There is also one thing I will never, ever get sick of: Game of Thrones. So when Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen on the hit HBO show, is rumored yet again to be a front-runner to play Ana Steele, it's hard to reconcile the fact that these two worlds are indeed colliding.

From all the Game of Thrones season 4 reports out there in Internet Land, filming is well underway. Daenerys had a major part to play in season 3, but in season 4, her role may be scaled back a little bit. Still, going back and forth between Dany and Ana, from Westeros to the Pacific Northwest, if she is indeed cast, would be quite the challenge.

Talk about a busy year! How the heck is she going to be able to pull it off?

According to Entertainmentwise, producers for the Fifty Shades movie have pegged Emilia as a favorite to play young, sweet, innocent Ana. She's also got the support of a legion of fans, though many others are arguing for Alexis Bledel, Amanda Seyfried, Nina Dobrev, and Kristen Stewart.

But let me just say, none of these actresses have starred in a show as incredible and epic as Game of Thrones. Nor did they walk into a fire and come out naked with three baby dragons! Which I thought was one of the most amazing scenes in all of television! (I have issues.) And could any sex scene with Christian Grey top the love Daenerys once had for her beloved Khal Drogo? You see, this is what I mean about worlds colliding.

Daenerys Drogo

Anyway, so Game of Thrones season 4 is set to premiere some time in spring 2014. The release date for Fifty Shades is reported to be August 2014. The filming schedule for Fifty Shades is currently unknown (the cosmos are still writhing in agony over who the hell is going to be cast, after all), but it definitely seems like the two would have to overlap.

Plus, playing Khalessi, the mother of dragons, has to be a grueling, intense, and emotionally taxing experience. Taking on the role of Ana would also be a huge responsibility. Millions of fans can't wait to see the movie and have put tons of pressure on the leads. Would it even be fair to burden her with both, considering how crazed fans of both franchises can get? Kind of sounds like a recipe for disaster if you ask me.

Well, needless to say, Daenerys, I mean Khalessi, I mean Emilia definitely has the look, the body, the acting chops, the sex appeal, the innocence, and the bad-ass-ness to play Ana. If she doesn't end up being cast (and between you and me and the rest of the Internet, I don't think she will be, as focusing on GoT probably trumps anything else for her right now), let's hope the producers in charge can find someone else just like her.

Do you think there is any way Emilia Clarke could play both Daenerys and Ana in these two hugely popular franchises?

Miley Cyrus' Dad Has Perfect Response to Her Raunchy VMA Performance

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota
by Jeanne Sager 3 hours ago

Miley Cyrus Robin ThickeFirst it was Miley Cyrus being attacked over her (admittedly raunchy and insane) VMA performance. Now Miley has broken her silence on Twitter to share something her dad said about the incident, and it's Billy Ray Cyrus who's fielding the hate for coming out in support of his little girl.

America? What did you expect him to say?

He's her father! It's his job to have his little girl's back ... at least in public.

The country singer has been largely silent in public, actually, even bailing on an interview with Piers Morgan. Billy Ray's only real statement came when he told Entertainment Tonight earlier this week:

Of course I'll always be here for Miley. Can't wait (to) see her when she gets home.

She's my little girl, and I'm still her dad regardless how this circus we call show business plays out.

But that was it until Miley's tweet:

"Mile, if twerkin woulda been invented.... And I had a foam finger.... I woulda done the same thang you did." - DAD

Would I say the same thing to my daughter? Not on your life. But then, this is just one thing that Billy Ray supposedly said. We don't know that he didn't also tell her that she acted like a bit of a buffoon on the VMA stage or that he didn't give Robin Thicke a piece of his mind.

There's a line between what we say about our kids and their misdeeds in public and what we say to them in private -- at least there used to be. These days it seems parents have no qualms about airing the family's dirty laundry, posting rants about their kids on Facebook and Twitter.

More From The Stir: Miley Cyrus Doesn't Owe Parents an Apology for Her Raunchy VMA Performance

But I was raised to believe you keep things in the family, and I hold to that with my daughter. I may apologize for her behavior to others, but that's where it ends -- I don't berate her in public. There will be enough people willing to do that as she grows up, as we're seeing with Miley right now.

It's my job as a parent to give it to her straight, and I will (and do) ... at home. Out in public, I try to temper what I have to say, to be a supportive mom, because I AM still her mom. She needs to know I'll be in her corner, that I don't stop loving her just because she screws up.

I respect Billy Ray for not adding his voice to the din. It would be easy to just go along with the crowd. But he shows he's a real parent by taking the other road.

How do you think Billy Ray is doing as a dad?

New School Rules for Transgender Kids Make Perfect Sense

Penulis : Unknown on woensdag 14 augustus 2013 | 04:54

woensdag 14 augustus 2013

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota
by Kiri Blakeley 3 hours ago

Transgender kids are going to have an easier time going to school in California. The state just became the first to give transgender children certain rights that aren't available everywhere. Some of the rights transgender kids grades K-12 will now have? Transgender kids can now use whichever bathroom or locker room they want. They can also choose whether they want to play girls' or boys' sports. Transgender advocates are happy about the change -- but not everyone is.

Supporters of the bill say that this will help eliminate bullying and discrimination. Let's face it, if you're a boy who dresses like a girl and who identifies as a girl, it would suck to have to use the boys' bathroom or locker room. It must be confusing enough what a transgender kid is going through without being "girl" in the classroom and at home but "boy" in the locker room.

On the other hand, detractors say that this infringes upon the privacy of other students. So I guess if you're a girl and that "girl" (who was born a boy) comes into the locker room, it could be uncomfortable.

I very much doubt any kid who was born a boy decides to become a girl so he can snatch a peek inside the girls' locker room or bathroom. That would be a HUGE change to take on in your life just to see a bit of frilly panty. Which, if you're wearing them, you could look at anyway.

But what about kids who haven't quite figured it out yet? Last week, I was standing outside with a friend when her friend, and her friend's young daughter, stopped by to say hello. When they left, I said something to the effect of, "What a cute girl," and my friend replied, "That's a boy."

"That's a boy?!" I exclaimed, watching the boy with the striped tights and a pink and blue skirt walk away with his mom. Apparently the little boy (about 3 years old, I guess) liked to dress up like a girl. Sometimes. Other times, he dresses like a boy. His mom lets him decide which he wants that day.

So which bathroom would he use? Would it depend on his mood? Would he be considered a transgender kid? When you get as young as kindergarten, kids like this haven't had hormone treatments or surgery -- they just might prefer to dress like a girl, be called by a girl's name, and play with traditionally girls' toys. But does that mean the boy really identifies as female? As a kid, I wore pants, played with trucks, and occasionally liked to be called "Peter" (as in Peter Pan), but never had any doubt I was a girl and liked being a girl. (I also never thought to use the boys' bathroom -- ew!)

On the other hand, young kids of the opposite sex using each other's bathrooms isn't a big deal. They do it at home. Presumably, by the time kids like this little boy get to high school, he will know what sex he identifies as. It all gets a little confusing, but at the end of the day, kids being able to identify as the sex they want will save them from being depressed and suicidal down the line.

Do you agree with the California bill?

Suddenly Jenelle Evans Can't 'Trust' Her 'Perfect' Boyfriend Nathan

Jenelle Evans and Nathan GriffithLooks like things could be getting a little rocky in the relationship department for Jenelle Evans. After things have been oh-so-perfect with boyfriend and underwear model Nathan Griffith for the past few months, the Teen Mom took to her absolute favorite social median (Twitter, duh) to do a bit of complaining. Turns out, Jenelle is having trust issues with her friends AND Nathan and feels stabbed in the back. Hmm, not exactly an excellent foundation for a great relationship.

Obviously what's going on here or why Jenelle feels betrayed. I have a hankering that if she kept more things sacred in her life instead of blabbing them to the world, she wouldn't have so many trust issues. It's easy to lose trust when you have no problem airing everyone's dirty laundry out for the whole world to see!

Sure, Jenelle's wary about things with Nathan right now. But let's be real, if I was him -- I'd be nervous to be dating her, too.

Come on, Nathan. Have you seen how Jenelle's absolutely destroyed the last two men she dated on Twitter? There isn't more than a week or two that goes by at a time where she's not slamming Courtland Rogers or Kieffer Delp. It's not just a casual "you are the worst," tweet, either. Jenelle has no problem going back into her partners' personal history and bringing out the big guns.Sure, these men may not be the best of characters, but certain aspects of an intimate relationship should remain private between two people, always.

Plain and simple: You have to be trustworthy first to expect that same courtesy from other people. Will Jenelle and Nathan patch things up? I hope so. It seems that since June, he's been really really good for her. With that said, though, if they can make it work then there are a few things homegirl needs to reevaluate. Item No. 1: Who's more important -- her boyfriend or her Twitter followers.

Do you think Jenelle and Nathan will make it through this?

'Real Housewife' Melissa Gorga Doesn’t Appreciate Her Perfect Body

melissa gorga

Melissa Gorga isn't happy. But it's not mortal enemy Teresa Giudice that is causing her anguish this time. It's her rump -- or rather lack thereof. The Real Housewives of New Jersey star wants a bigger booty and is doing everything she can to pump up her posterior. Here's this woman with her gorgeous, slim figure. A physique most of us would die for and she wants to change it. It forces me to ask, are women ever happy with what they have?

“I want a bigger booty. I want a bigger booty!” she whined to Us Weekly. “There's a lot of women who try to minimize their backsides but I actually grab more weight when it comes to that.”

I guess that old adage is true -- the grass is always greener on the other side. Because striving for a bigger butt is the last thing I would ever do. In fact, I avoid clothes that make my backside look any bigger than it is. Don't get me wrong, I want a nice shape, but when you've always been curvy, the last thing you want to do is make something bigger.

Though, among African Americans, a bootlicious backside has long been a standard of sex appeal. But now that standard is mainstream. Probably because of stars like Kim Kardashian. She always made a point of accentuating her butt. In fact, she has clothes tailored to make her behind look bigger. No joke. To help reach her goal, Melissa says she is doing lunges and lifting heavier weights while squatting. If only we could swap bods. Well, good luck Melissa. I hope your bootiful dream comes true.

Do you want a bigger butt? How are you going about getting it?

Jenelle Evans Says She’s in a ‘Perfect’ Relationship Like She Would Know

No cuelgues. NO, TÚ!

Yolanda Foster sells condoWhen it comes to Real Housewives, there's a whole lot of gorgeous real estate in the picture. Personally, I always gawk over RHONJ Melissa Gorga's mansion and the old stunner that RHOBH Heather Dubrow once lived in. Wouldn't you just kill to live in that kind of fully-furnished Housewives luxury? Well, don't get too too excited, but you can ... for a price. RHOBH Yolanda Foster is putting her gorgeous Canadian penthouse on the market. And when I say gorgeous, I mean absolutely stunning.

The asking price? A casual $5.25 million. Yolanda's two-level condo is 4,226 square feet, located in downtown Victoria, British Columbia, and boasts three bedrooms and four bathrooms. With breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, this place is a legitimate dream. Yeah yeah, supposedly she wants to trade in these digs for a boat -- but HELLO, the water views are fabulous. And those high ceilings? Man, what I'd do for some extra cash right about now.

ian somerhalderAs if we need more convincing that Ian Somerhalder would be the perfect Christian Grey, recent news about his bedroom preferences confirms it! In an interview with Women's Health, the Vampire Diaries star opens up about what gets him hot and bothered. You won't believe what his biggest, sexiest turn-ons are.

As all his diehard fans are aware, Ian and Nina Dobrev recently ended their romance and now we may know why. According to the smoldering star, he has pretty specific criteria when it comes to the way a woman seduces him. "With dancing," he revealed. "When someone can dance or you have rhythm with someone, it's really sexy."

Another lust must? When it comes to lingerie, he prefers it "off, crumpled up on the floor." Wow! Sounds fantastic, if you ask me. This makes me feel more sorry for Nina than I did before. Perhaps she couldn’t cut it or meet Ian's incredibly sexy standards. Her loss.

Not that the split hasn't been hard for him too. He also talked about using various methods to get over a heartbreak. "There are a million ways to handle it," he explained. "You have wine, you have exercise, you have meditation, you have friends. You know, friends can be your meditation."

But boy, doesn't his bedroom confession make him an even better candidate to star in the big screen version of Fifty Shades of Grey? Could this guy get any hotter, sexier, and in command. HELLO! If he doesn't land that role, it will be a huge casting mistake.

What do you think of Ian's sexy confession?
