charlie hunnamCharlie Hunnam may have yet to start shooting Fifty Shades of Grey but he's already being treated like Hollywood royalty. Apparently, Universal Pictures has supplied the up-and-coming mega-star with his very own "handful of bodyguards." Uh, whaaa?!

What's next, his very own bulletproof limousine? Air Force Fifty? Eesh. It's not like the guy was just elected to public office, so what's with the amped-up security? Well, reportedly, the studio is concerned that people are going to try to swarm the poor guy -- some reports say Hunnam is already being followed by fans hoping to score his John Hancock -- so the bodyguards are meant to prevent keep the adoring crowds in line. Whoa.

And it's not just hearsay. The Hollywood Reporter notes that extra security was hired for the 33-year-old during FX's Sept. 7 Anarchy premiere in Hollywood, and it was definitely funded by Universal -- NOT FX.

In other words, the studio is doing all that they can to keep their leading man safe and comfortable amid this overnight onslaught of attention. Aww! OR they're pulling this as a publicity stunt?! You know, fake it 'til you make it. Pretend the hype is at a certain level ... until it ACTUALLY IS. OMG, crazy.

More from The Stir: Charlie Hunnam's Sexy Promise Will Thrill '50 Shades of Grey' Fans

Either way, I worry this could eaaaaasily go to Charlie's head! The guy hasn't even read his first official line in front of Sam Taylor-Johnson's camera, and he has bodyguards. Oof. You've gotta be pretty mature and secure in who you are as a person to not suddenly get a HUGE ego over something like that, huh? Thankfully, from what we know so far, Charlie seems like he can take the heat ... Which I'm sure is one of the reasons Universal brought him on-board in the first place.

What do you make of this?!

fruit flyWe had a fruit fly invasion this week at the office. And it was maddening. One Stir staffer spent the day with a squirt bottle of soapy water, shooting it every time anything flew near her. No doubt about it, those little bugs are annoying. How do you get rid of them -- without setting off a toxic bomb of bug spray everywhere?

There's that trick of putting vinegar or something sweet in a jar and covering it with punctured plastic wrap, but that didn't do the trick for me last time I got an invasion. So I'm looking for other non-toxic, DIY fruit fly traps.

Soda Bottle Trap

Take an empty, two-liter soda bottle and cut off the top third.Fill the bottle with a 1/4 inch of juice, wine, tequila, or apple cider, and squirt in a little liquid soap. The liquid soap is supposed to create surface tension so the fruit flies don't just hang out on the surface of the juice, but actually drown in it.Invert the top of the soda bottle upside-down and set that in the bottle. Seal the two parts together with duct tape.Enjoy as your fruit flies fly in and fail to escape.

Alternatively, you can curl a piece of paper into a funnel and insert that, point down, instead of the inverted bottle top.

Incense

Fruit flies can't handle the smoke. Rather than set your kitchen on fire (in a fury, we understand...) light some incense -- a handful of sticks, maybe more than you'd ordinarily use at once.

Milk and Sugar

1. Combine 1 pint of milk, 1/4 pound of sugar, and 2 ounces ground pepper in a saucepan. Simmer for 10 minutes.

2. Pour liquid into small, shallow bowls in affected areas. Collect bowls after fruit flies fall in and drown.

Destroy Breeding Grounds

Once you've killed off the fruit flies you could see, clean areas where they were breeding with bleach (your fruit bowl, for instance). Fruit flies often breed inside drains and garbage disposals, so pour some bleach down the sink as well.

How do you kill off fruit flies?

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Are Already in Couples' Therapy Before They've Even Gotten Married

the kimyeThey're not even married yet, but it looks like Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are headed to the therapist's office. Yes, it's couples' therapy for Kimye. They're supposedly seeking counseling to help them adjust to life as parents. Well, as celeb parents, that is. Stars, they're just like us! Except they talk about their tabloid coverage, epic brawls with the paparazzi, and rumors of affairs with French DJs while in therapy.

"It’s helping them get through it," says one of Kimye's blabbermouth friends, meaning becoming parents. "Kim knows Kanye’s an alpha male, but she finds it hard handling his moods. Kanye is a very different person when it’s just him and Kim -- she melts when she sees him holding their little girl." Kanye, an alpha male? Moody much? NOOOO! I never would have guessed.

Apparently Kanye turns into grumpy "papa bear" when there are too many visitors at their house. Wait, did I say their house? I mean Kris Jenner's house. Yikes. This couples' therapy, it's happening right now every day, right?

Well good for them. I think a little bit of counseling would be helpful for just about any set of new parents. Didn't Prince William and Kate get some counseling before they had Georgie? It's good just to get a reality check, set your intentions, make sure your expectations are realistic. But wow, for Kim and Kanye, therapy as new parents should be mandatory. I think we all know Kanye is a piece of work on his own -- but there are also the demands of celebrityhood.

Oh yeah, and there are also all those rumors of Kanye straying on Kim while she was pregnant. They should probably talk that out, even if the rumors are false. Even if you're not a big fan of Kanye, I think we can all agree that what's best for little Nori is for Mommy and Daddy to get along.

Do you think couples' therapy will be enough to keep Kim and Kanye together longer?

Kate Gosselin Admits Making 'Many Mistakes' -- So Can We Please Give Her a Break Already?

kate gosselinSince the debut of Jon & Kate Plus 8 back in 2007, mother of multiples extraordinaire Kate Gosselin has generated a near constant stream of controversy: First, for simply giving birth to six babies at once (after having twin girls); next, for "bossing" her husband and children around (did she really have a choice?); and most recently, for displaying what many considered "diva-esque" behavior following her divorce from husband Jon. Still, has any of the criticism been fair? (I say NO, but more on that later.)

Now that the kids are getting older (twins Mady and Cara are 12, and sextuplets Alexis, Collin, Hannah, Joel, Leah, and Aaden are 9) and the fame-induced firestorm is dying down at last, Gosselin can conceivably take a minute to look back at the last 10 years of her life -- which is exactly what she's doing in the new issue of People magazine.

"I made so many mistakes, of course," she says.

It feels like a whole other lifetime ago ... and sometimes I don't even remember much of it. Both when the babies were first born and during the divorce, I was on survival mode. I feel like I've lived two lifetimes already. I'm not the same person I was ... I don't even recognize her.

Honestly, that makes me kind of sad -- I liked the person Kate was back then. See, I was fairly obsessed with Jon & Kate ... when the show first came out, partly because all of her (super-adorable!!) babies vaguely resembled my own (half-Asian) kids. My daughter is actually the same age as Mady and Cara, so she liked tuning in, too. What struck me at the time was how down-to-earth Kate was -- and how strong. I'm sorry, but any working mom (Kate was a nurse, something which deserves respect in and of itself) who can manage to raise eight very small children and run a household relatively smoothly is doing something right. Sure, she was short-tempered at times (who wouldn't be?), but I think that mostly stemmed from her intense need for things to be organized -- and with six babies and two toddlers, you'd HAVE to be incredibly organized just to keep everybody alive! As for her "diva" stage, having been divorced myself, I recognized Kate's glam makeover and high standards for what they were/are: The tentative, sometimes misdirected steps toward reinvention so many of us take when we split from the fathers of our children and start new lives.

The point is, of course Kate Gosselin made mistakes -- we all make mistakes, even those of us who aren't trying to raise eight children while going through a divorce as millions of people watch. She's just a mom like you or me with an unimaginably full plate, and it's not fair to judge the woman by any other standards.

Do you think Kate Gosselin is unfairly criticized?
