Jennnifer Aniston may be headed for heartbreak all over again. She hasn't always been lucky in the romance department. Her marriage to Brad Pitt famously crashed and burned after he fell for his Mr. and Mrs. Smith costar Angelina Jolie. However, we fans had hoped she'd found The One in fiance Justin Theroux. But if the latest reports are to be believed, Jen is sabotaging her own relationship and it's a mistake many other woman have made.
Like many couples, Jennifer and her husband-to-be don't see eye-to-eye on one very important topic: money. Apparently, she loves to treat herself to lavish, high-priced shopping sprees, while he is more practical with money. Sources have told the Globe magazine that she dropped as much as $15,000 on a summer wardrobe and never even wore many of the pricey new fashions -- something the more frugal Justin just can't understand.
Jen also reportedly has a penchant for going on these sprees when she is down or had a bad day. So many women can relate to that one. Of course, we don't walk in the door with a $5,000 skirt, but all those pairs of shoes, makeup, pieces of jewelry can add up. That momentary emotional surge we get from retail therapy is not worth the long term damage we may be doing to our bank accounts, credit scores, and ultimately our relationships.
The stress of postponing their wedding certainly hasn't helped matters. She's supposedly hitting the stores even more. And knowing how Justin disapproves, she has started hiding her purchases. A big, big No-No and one so many of us are guilty of.
Conflicts about money can destroy any relationship – even those among the rich. It boils down to trust. Your spouse needs to know that he can rely on you to make rational, smart choices, especially when it comes to finances. Even if you have a lot of money in the bank, outrageous spending can be a sign of immaturity. It is not a smart or healthy way to deal with your emotions on a regular basis. And to keep this secret before you walk down the aisle is crazy. It all but guarantees an eventual trip to a marriage counselor or worse – to divorce court. Hope Jen smartens up and puts that wallet away.
Do you think money problems can ruin any relationship?
