One of the most terrifying things in the world must be getting attacked by a random stranger who tries to rape you. Now quadruple your terror if your young child is with you at the time, in his stroller, and the attacker has just knocked the child over, who screams while you try to figure out what to do about the crazed attacker. This is the exact nightmarish scenario that MaryJane Jarman and her son, 8-month-old Thayne, were facing when the mom had just dropped off her 5-year-old at school and was jogging with Thayne in his stroller along a bucolic park in Upper Manhattan. But the attacker didn't quite understand that if you attack a mom with her kid -- you are going to get the fight of your life. And this one did.

It all started when Jarman was jogging with Thayne along the Hudson River early in the morning. She suddenly heard someone calling "Come here, come here," and saw a stranger crawl out of a nearby bush. He was holding a broken bottle and rushed at her.

Jarman says she began screaming and yelling, hoping someone would hear her, as the man grabbed her in a bear hug and tried to pull her behind a large wall. Police believe he meant to rape her.

Unbelievably, the man kept apologizing as he attacked her, saying, "I'm sorry, I'm sick."

But that wasn't going to earn any sympathy points with Jardan, who realized that her son's stroller had been knocked over in their struggle, and he was laying on the ground screaming. She told the New York Daily News:

My son was hysterical. He was screaming and crying.

At this point, Jardan knew she was in a fight for her -- and possibly her son's -- life. She says:

I wasn’t going to go down that way. I was going to kill him to protect my son.

Jardan grabbed her small but hard metal bicycle pump. She knew just what to do with it, hitting his head "over and over" until he was bleeding and had some "nasty gashes." Outdone and bleeding profusely, the psycho finally ran off.Cops were impressed. "She squared off with him. She stood her ground," a police source told the Daily News.Jardan and her son are unhurt, thank goodness. This could have ended up tragically -- and no doubt Jardan will have some emotional scars -- but this fierce mom wasn't going to let this asswipe get the best of her. Her son will be proud.Hopefully this guy will be caught soon -- he's got gashes on his face, so he will be seen and recognized. Any scumbag who wants to rape a woman in front of her child needs to be taken off the streets.

Plans to Honor Cory Monteith at Emmy Awards Create an Unexpected Backlash

Cory MonteithIt's been over two months since Cory Monteith's untimely, tragic passing, yet his name is still making headlines, this time because of a controversy brewing in regards to the Emmy Awards. It seems that in addition to the "In Memoriam" segment, on Sunday, the Emmys will separately honor Cory, James Gandolfini, Gary David Goldberg, Jean Stapleton, and Jonathan Winters.

And apparently this has some people very, very angry.

Many commenters are saying Cory didn't have enough of a career to be honored with the other four on this list. They're pissed that Andy Griffith was passed over. And they're saying that the Emmys are glamorizing his OD by making such a huge deal in honoring the death of a druggie.

Suffice to say: Wow, people on the Internet sure can be a bunch of insensitive jerks.

Look, I don't agree with the decision to single out actors who have passed away as somehow being more "honor-worthy" than the others, but their decision to include Cory makes sense. Cory and the cast of Glee spoke to a younger demographic. The ratings game is all about harnessing this young demographic, and the producers behind the Emmys probably thought this tribute would be a good way to lure them in and get them to watch the show (it may sound insensitive, but that's how our sick, sad world works).

Many 18-year-olds know who Cory is and that he passed away a couple months ago. Sad to say, but ask them who Jonathan Winters (a comedic genius and pioneer) was, and they'd probably shrug and continue playing Candy Crush on their iPhone.

Anyway, each of these tributes will be delivered by costars and close friends. For example, Edie Falco will be remembering Gandolfini, with whom she worked on The Sopranos, while Jane Lynch will be talking about Cory. Of course fans of Glee will tune in to see what Jane has to say about her fallen costar.

Not only does it feel weird debating who is and isn't worthy of being on this list since these actors are no longer with us, the things people have been saying about Cory have been cold, cruel, and completely unnecessary. He was one of the lead actors on an extremely popular television show, and many fans, young and old, were touched by and are still trying to process his death. There's no doubt that he had talent and legions of fans, and he was very open and honest about his struggles with addiction. Instead of "sensationalizing" his drug use, we can only hope that Lynch will talk about her friend in a way that shows how drugs can easily cut off a life and career that had so much promise. And, come on, no one's giving him an Emmy here.

So let's stop dissecting Cory's career and saying that he's a "minor" actor and that how he died makes him any more or less worthy to be on this list. We should be placing blame on the Emmys who are saying that one star's death is more important to honor than another's. Regardless, it's a shame that Cory's passing has led to this kind of exploitative controversy.

What do you think about Cory Monteith's inclusion on the "special" Emmys "In Memoriam" segment?

An Unexpected Enemy Tries to Take Down Tamra Barney Right Before Her Wedding (VIDEO)

Last night was CRAZY in Reality TV land!! Did you watch?? First, on Tamra’s OC Wedding, the bride was nearly burned at the stake. Add to that a swinging cake, a ballooning budget, REALLY bad behavior on the groom’s part, and a family feud.

But that was just the tip of the over-the-top drama!

You may remember on the last season of The Real Housewives of Orange County, Tamra Barney filmed a tear-jerker scene with her mother, going over childhood trauma and asking her mother why she never says, “I love you.” The mom was horrified, of course, but they talked it out. Fast forward to the filming of this wedding spinoff and all hell has broken loose. In fact, this time Tamra’s entire extended family is about to kill her. This is what happens when estranged family members see something on television they don’t like, or are embarrassed by. Tamra’s lucky they didn’t set her hair on fire!

Over on The Real Housewives of Miami, the biggest star of the night was a caged panther that should have been allowed to break out of its cage and eat those outrageously catty cast members. The Lea Black backstabbing was brutal. Or perhaps I’m just upset because Lauren Foster stole my line. Or tried to. "Thug in a Ferragamo" doesn’t have quite the same ring as "Thug in a Cocktail Dress," does it?

That wasn't the only guffaw. Guess what fatal mistakes I spotted last night? One was the result of sloppy production and, the other, a Miami cast member making a really bad choice. It’s true what they say, in real life as well as on reality TV, that if you sit on the fence, you get nothing but a pole up your a**. So who’s guilty of this crime? Watch my exclusive video to find out!

Holiday World

We just returned from our annual pilgrimage to Holiday World, an amusement park in Santa Claus, Indiana. And yes. It was every bit as weird and wonderful as it sounds.

Each time we go, we learn something new about how to make our experience better the next time around. And you know I'm not going to keep that information to myself. I went to a true expert to learn 10 secrets that will make your next family amusement park trip even better.

Paula Werne has been the Director of Communications at Holiday World for 21 years and I'm pretty sure she has seen it ALL. She shared with me some of the best lessons she's learned from her time spent in the amusement park trenches:

1. DON’T tell your kids about the visit ahead of time. This can be tough, but Paula makes a good point. If the kids are in the know, rest assured that no one will get any sleep the night before. Yuck. Instead, try surprising them with the news the morning of your visit.

2. Don't forget to put sunscreen on the scalps of your children with super-short or thin hair. "Really," Paula says. "Sunburn hurts and is unhealthy. And it hurts."

3. A good rule of thumb to stay hydrated in the heat, according to Paula, "Drink until you pee." She adds, "Pay attention to how often your children usually need to go potty. If that schedule isn’t kept during a day in the park, you’ve got dehydrated kids."

4. Don't let your children jam their knees in the vertical railings in the queues and by the rides at many amusement parks. Why? Here's what Paula says will happen:

  a. They get stuck.

  b. ... and it hurts.

  c. It usually takes something oily to slide the knee back out.

  d. Now you’ve lost your place in line.

If they manage to get their knee stuck in there anyway, here's another tip: Sunscreen works well to help grease up their leg and ease it back through the railing.

5. Bring swim shoes for the water park. "Yes, they’re hideous," admits Paula, "but your feet won’t burn on the hot walkways and you’ll feel cleaner walking into restrooms." Good point.

6. Come up with some fun games ahead of time to help pass the time in the ride lines. "They could be word games, counting games, or even this old chestnut, 'A my name is Anna and my husband’s name is Andrew and we live in Anderson and we sell apples,'" Paula says.

7. Don’t forget the live shows. Paula says they’re especially good for some stomach-settling time between eating and hitting the rides again. And if they're indoors, they're a great way for your child to rest for a bit and cool off.

8. This tip might be my favorite. Before you start your day, take a photo of each parent and child from the phone you’ll carry with you all day. "If you get separated, it’ll refresh your memory what each person is wearing," says Paula, "plus, you can show the photo to park staff who are helping you in the search." Brilliant advice.

9. Consider going to the park even if the forecast is iffy. Here are the pluses, according to Paula:

  a. Many will cancel, which means smaller crowds.

  b. No sun means less chance of sunburn.

  c. Many will cancel, which means shorter lines.

  d. Did I mention that many will cancel?

10. This tip is from me. It's the big lesson I learned during our latest amusement park visit. If you're going to a park that has a connecting water park, wear a swim/beach cover-up dress over your bathing suit for the amusement park portion of your visit. Most amusement parks feature rides that get you wet, and those will inevitably be your kids' favorite ones on a hot day. A swim dress is designed to dry quickly. You'll be much more comfortable in it than I was in my soaking-wet denim cutoffs. Even if you're not going to a water park the same day, remember to wear clothing that dries quickly and isn't see-through when wet!

Those are our tips. Now I want to hear yours. What have you learned from your family amusement park experiences?
