Emmy Awards Cory Monteith tributeThe Emmy Awards tribute to Cory Monteith had created a surprising amount of controversy before the awards show even aired. Some, like Jack Klugman's son Adam, accused the ceremony's producers of glorifying someone who died at his own hands. And then, Jane Lynch got up onstage and told it like it is: her Glee co-star wasn't perfect. He was a drug addict who died because of his addiction.

It wasn't your typical tribute. Memorials tends to speak in glowing terms of the deceased.

But in telling the truth about how Cory Monteith died, Lynch did something better.

She made the tribute to Cory mean something more to the world than just a chance to remember a good actor.

As Lynch said:

Cory was a beautiful soul. He was not perfect, which many of us here tonight can relate to. His death is a tragic reminder of the rapacious, senseless destruction that is brought on by addiction.

Tonight we remember Cory for all he was and mourn the loss of all he could have been.

And there it is, folks: why mourning Cory Monteith in front of a world's audience made sense.

Klugman's son had accused the ceremony's producers of playing to a "youth-centric culture that has an extremely short attention span and panders to only a very narrow demographic."

Lynch's tribute to her Glee co-star was the very opposite. It was a warning to the youth of America, an arrow straight to their hearts: life is short; don't screw around.

Monteith's death wasn't part of the natural course of things. He wasn't an elderly man who'd contributed decades of work to the entertainment industry, only to die peacefully of something related to his age. Is he someone today's youth can relate to better than someone who hasn't graced a television screen in years? Perhaps, but that's all the more reason why the Emmy's tribute worked. There was a stark difference between the tribute to Monteith and those to Jonathan Winters and Jean Stapleton that preceded it.

Winters and Stapleton had done much, gotten far.

They were old.

And their tributes were uncomplicated by talk of "imperfection" and "addiction."

Cory Monteith died before he got to do most of what he could have done. His youth, his superstardom, was not enough to save him.

And to cement just what it was we lost, Lynch offered a reminder that there was more to Monteith than just the drugs:

All that warmth and that charm, that open-hearted quality that we loved in Cory was no act. This gifted and wonderful young man was worthy of your love.

If you were lucky enough to know Cory as we did and witness firsthand Cory's goofy, breezy sense of humor, his natural instinct for inclusiveness and his unbridled sense of generosity day in and day out, I promise, you'd have loved him even more.

What did you think of the tribute to Cory? Was it appropriate?

Harry Shum Jr. (Mike Chang)
Mark Salling (Puck)
Jayma Mays (Emma Pillsbury)
Amber Riley (Mercedes Jones)
Romy Rosemont (Carole Hudson-Hummel, madre de Finn)
Mike o ' Malley (Burt Hummel, padre de Finn)
Dot-Marie Jones (entrenador Beiste)

Personalmente, no espero nada menos.

Winnie Cooper Kisses Avril Lavigne in Bizarre 'Wonder Years' Tribute (VIDEO)

Winnie Cooper Avril LavigneRemember sweet-faced, innocent Winnie Cooper from The Wonder Years? Did you know the actress who played Winnie, Danica McKellar, went on to become a math scholar and co-author what was eventually termed the "Chayes–McKellar–Winn theorem" before writing four amusingly-titled non-fiction books intended to encourage middle-school and high-school girls to succeed in mathematics (Math Doesn't Suck, Kiss My Math, Hot X: Algebra Exposed, and Girls Get Curves: Geometry Takes Shape)? Did you know McKellar is currently making headlines for frenching Avril Lavigne?

I know, that was kind of a random paragraph. But that's what makes this news so incredibly weird: Avril Lavigne's new music video "Rock N Roll" features a hot n' heavy makeout session between Lavigne and Winnie -- err, McKellar. I guess it's supposed to be provocative and sexy and outrageous, but honestly, it just makes me feel old and really kind of nostalgic for that time when Winnie kissed Kevin in Harpers Woods.

So, Lavigne's video is pretty much all over the place -- it's sort of a Tank Girl ripoff with Lavigne fighting a bear-shark creature, a knife-wielding lobster, and a Segway-riding Billy Zane before her dog drunk-crashes her car and she swaps spit with Danica McKellar.

As for the music … well, technically a cat throwing up in the hallway at 4 A.M. is probably worse, but this is a damn close second. Check it out, if you dare:

Wow. That was truly awful. But here I am writing about it, so I guess Lavigne achieved what she was aiming for. Well played, you talentless faux-punk marketing construct -- well played.

As for why McKellar agreed to take part in this aural and visual monstrosity, I can only guess that she's hoping to reboot her acting career, by reminding us all of the household name she once was -- yeah yeah, the Wonder Years-style narration referencing Winnie's first kiss, we get it -- while simultaneously showing off the 38-year-old hottie she is today.

Personally, I think I liked McKellar more when she was cranking out the empowering math books. Anyway, now that you've had all your pleasant Wonder Years memories besmirched with this video, let's try and remember Winnie as she used to be:

Ahhh, that's better.

What do you think of this Avril Lavigne video?

Cory Monteith and Lea MicheleEvery day, there are new details coming out about how the Glee crew is going to handle the tragedy that is Cory Monteith's July 13 death on the FOX show. So far, what we know about the Cory Monteith tribute episode, set for October 10, is minimal. We've heard that the actors will be sitting down as themselves, addressing their best memories about their lost friend. We've also heard from creator Ryan Murphy that Cory's character Finn will die on the show as well. Now, a source is telling Us Weekly what Lea Michele wants for the tribute episode.

"Lea wants it to reflect the truth, to warn people of what can happen," a source tells Us Weekly.

That's ... brave. Hard drug use isn't a light topic to cover on a TV show with such a young demographic like Glee. Just like with the school shooting episode, something tells me that the October episode dealing with the drug-related death of Finn is going to be a heavy-hitter.

With that said, though, I think it's the right choice. I think that sometimes, it's easier to have some of life's most difficult conversations when prompted by the things we see on television. Do parents want their kids and teenagers doing drugs? Of course not, never. But seeing some of their favorite TV characters handling the difficult passing of someone because of hard drugs, it starts the dialogue.

Lea wants to warn audiences about the dangers of hard drug use, and that's exactly what she'll be doing. Cory's death was a chilling reminder that anyone, no matter their background, can fall victim to the horrible effects of addiction. Something tells me that the upcoming ep will have both Glee fans and the media talking for weeks to come.

What would you like to see in the October 10 episode?

Lea Michele Bravely Moves Forward by Co-Creating the Cory Monteith 'Glee' Tribute

lea michele cory monteith gleeThe wheels are officially turning on the Glee tribute episode for Cory Monteith, which we've heard for a while now is planned to be the third episode of the upcoming, fifth season. We're hearing whisperings that Ryan Murphy & co. are discussing the best approach, and what's more, Lea Michele is co-creating the emotional episode.

An insider shares, "The producers are still going back and forth on what they want to do and clearing music for his tribute. The meetings are lengthy, and Lea is a part of them to make sure everything is just right."

Wow ...

We knew she was talented, and we knew she was brave to stand by Cory's side as he battled his demons in rehab, but this only goes to show that she's so strong. It's beyond admirable that she's clearly been able to pull herself up by the bootstraps to do this. I can't even imagine just how difficult and challenging it must be for everyone, but especially for Lea.

More from The Stir: Fast-Approaching Final Season of 'Glee' Will Leave Us Heartbroken ... Again (VIDEO)

Still, as a fellow perfectionist Virgo, I'm not surprised. I'd bet she feels it's almost an obligation to be involved in these talks and the planning. She wants to ensure that the memorial for her beloved late boyfriend is spot-on. But of course that's going to mean having to face heavy emotions throughout the process. The source tells HollywoodLife.com:

When they start filming the PSAs and the third episode, that is going to be a mess. After they film that episode they are going to go on a break to recharge. ... It’s still touch and go for all involved. Tears can and will happen at anytime.

Aww, ugh, our hearts are still breaking for Lea and everyone in the cast and crew. But it sounds like everyone is doing as well as can be expected ... And given Lea's involvement, we can expect a moving, touching tribute that remembers Cory in the best possible way.

What are your thoughts on Lea taking the reins on Cory's tribute?
