Religion is no excuse for killing your child. That's the message that abusive parents Larry and Carri Williams got when they were found guilty of first-degree manslaughter when they let their adopted child, Hana, die in their backyard from starvation and hypothermia after reportedly following tactics outlined in a Christian parenting book called To Train Up a Child. Hey, just because you label something Christian doesn't mean it is. What's that saying? Lipstick on a pig is still a pig. And beating and starving your child is not Christian.

Hana was adopted from Ethiopia and believed to be about 13 years old. Hana was forced to stay in the couple's backyard -- apparently as part of cruel parenting rules that the couple got from the book. She died of hypothermia aggravated by gastritis and malnutrition. Her body was rail thin, covered in bruises, her head was shaved and lumpy, and she had evidence of physical abuse.

The Williams' defense team called this "questionable parenting practices" and said they didn't necessarily equate to a crime.

WRONG.

Horrifyingly, the couple had seven other children in their home -- all have since been removed. One of their other adopted children, Immanuel, testified that the couple beat them with belts and switches. As punishment, they were hosed down, forced to sleep in closets, and made to listen to the Bible on tape and Christian music.

The level of hypocrisy here is obscene. Christianity, like all major religions, is founded on principles of love, caring, forgiveness, and treating others as you would like to be treated. Unfortunately, religion is often perverted and those basic tenets are bent and twisted into something grotesque and far from the original idea behind them.

Religion is never an excuse for abandoning your critical thinking, compassion, and basic humanity. And the justice system recognized this. You don't get to kill someone and then say, "These were just my ways of parenting." You don't get to torture someone and say, "That's my religion."

Mankind's basic religion is kindness and do unto others. Anything that deviates from that is just perversion of religion. Unfortunately, all of this comes too late for Hana. But her death allowed the other seven children living in this hellhole to escape.

Do you ever hear people perverting the ideas of religion?

Dad Arrested for Leaving 3-Month-Old Baby in Hot Car to Die Has the Most Appalling Excuse

Every year, we hear terrible stories of parents who accidentally left their babies in hot cars to die. Normally, we have some degree of sympathy for the overworked, "mom-brained" parents who are devastated to have forgotten their kid in the car and left him or her to slowly roast to death. I think that we've all had those stressed out moments when a sleeping babe in the backseat has just left our minds for a moment and we suddenly realize, OMG, that could have happened to me! But this case is different. Daniel Bryant Gray, while no doubt equally as devastated at his 3-month-old son Jamison Gray's death after being left in a hot car, has been arrested on manslaughter and child abuse charges. Because he hadn't just mistakenly left his kid after a busy day. He was reportedly off smoking marijuana with a friend while his baby died.

Gray was allegedly smoking pot with a friend when he "lost track of time" while his baby was locked in a hot car in the parking lot of a pub in Scottsdale, Arizona. Reportedly, the baby was in the car for an hour -- which doesn't seem like that long, but way too long to have any child that young anywhere by itself unless it's sleeping in its bedroom with a monitor nearby. Let alone in a car outside of a bar.

It was 102 degrees in Scottsdale that day.

When Gray came out of the bar (no word on where he toked up), he found his son unresponsive and called 911. Police officers on the scene could not revive the baby.

Initially, Gray reportedly told investigators that he had stopped by the bar on "business" and got distracted -- but they later came to believe he was smoking with his friend.

One hour may not seem that long, but in that temp, it certainly is. In fact, it can only take 15 minutes for a child to die inside a hot car.

There's just really no excuse here. Not only to leave a baby for that long, when certainly the heat outside must have made itself excruciatingly apparent, but to be off smoking dope instead of watching your kid. Say what you like about pot, there's a reason it's an illegal drug. It alters your mind. It can impair your judgment. And, yes, that can lead to tragedies like this.

Do you think the dad should have been charged with manslaughter?

Is Sex Addiction a Real Problem or Just an Excuse to Behave Badly?

You would think with all of the news we've heard about sex addiction in the past few years, there'd be no doubt that it's a real addiction, much like drug or alcohol addiction. But a new study shockingly says sex addiction is no addiction at all! The study says that people who have so-called "sex addictions" are really just people who like to -- get ready for this shocker -- have a lot of sex.

The study showed "hypersexual" people -- the types who engage in a lot of sex or have had serious repercussions over their sexual exploits -- pictures of people having sex and expected that their brain waves would "spike" the same way that cocaine addicts have a brain spike when shown pics of toot. But apparently that didn't happen.

Sure, maybe some people need more sex just the way some people need more water or sleep, and this doesn't make him or her an "addict." But hopefully those people are figuring out how to do lots and lots of shebanging without ruining their lives or those of their spouses.

Perhaps the problem is that "hypersexual" people live in a society that demands fidelity to an extreme degree (like sex with one person for the next 50 years -- yeah, that's extreme), and they don't quite realize that they are hypersexual until they've walked down the aisle. But I would say in that case, better to get divorced than to cheat with anyone you can get your hands on.

Other experts say that sex addiction -- even sexting addiction -- is quite real. And considering a bonafide sexting addict might be the next mayor of New York City, this is quite a newsy topic.

Yet Anthony Weiner, who had now admitted to sexting no less than THREE women after his resignation from Congress, insists he's no sexting addict, narcissistically blathering:

I don't believe that it is. The people that I am working with don't believe that it is.

Okay, Anthony, but the "people" you work with are 22-year-old high school dropouts who are sexting you back, so that doesn't count. Haha. Anyway, I can't quite decide if Anthony is deluded or he's being refreshingly candid, given that everyone is so quick to blame their foibles on an addiction these days.

Some psychologists (obviously not the ones "treating" Anthony) say sexting addiction is quite real. I personally believe that any compulsion you have an overriding desire to engage in, even if it is to your detriment, is an addiction of sorts.

Even if there's no big negative consequences but you are using the activity, whatever it is, to avoid your thoughts, feelings, intimacy, or clarity -- that is addiction-like behavior. If you consistently choose to fiddle with your iPhone rather than engage in actual conversation with an actual human being, that's an addiction, IMHO.

Remember, everything in moderation!

Do you think sex addiction is real?

Jenelle Evans Gives a Hysterical Excuse for Living With Another Dude While Still Married

jenelle evansOne thing you've gotta give Teen Mom Jenelle Evans credit for: The woman does not run out of excuses. Ever. Jenelle recently said that, although she's currently living with new boyfriend Nathan Griffith while technically still married to Courtland Rogers, she's not committing adultery because Courtland cheated first.

Now, don't get me wrong, I was just as happy as the next guy to see Jenelle and Courtland part ways -- they're one of history's worst couples. And if she wants to be with someone else right now, that's fine. She and Rogers are estranged. But is she really using the ol' "he did it first" excuse. What is this, second grade?

Jenelle need not paint herself as the "scorned woman" here. Because she's not. Yeah, Courtland may have cheated first, but if Jenelle actually gave a rat's ass, she would have "mourned" their relationship first, as opposed to diving head-first into a new relationship. In fact, I'm guessing Jenelle was thrilled Courtland cheated, because that way, she was off the hook for anything she did afterwards.

I couldn't help but let out the most audible of sighs when I read Jenelle's tweet on the whole sitch. She wrote: "It's not a sin if one spouse has been unfaithful. CR was unfaithful and we r separated." First of all, easy there with the Bible talk, killer. And second of all, stop making excuses. Yes, what Courtland did was really, really wrong -- and he's one of the world's biggest trashballs -- but don't get it twisted, Jenelle. His wrong doesn't make you right.

What do you think of this?
