housewivesWhether you're excited or less-than-stoked for the reported Real Housewives of New Jersey spin-off featuring Caroline Manzo and her family, there is no arguing that the Manzos are an interesting bunch. You have Albie who is arguably the most handsome son to emerge out of the Housewives franchise and then the whole situation with them owning the Brownstone. But my favorite player of the Manzo clan? Lauren Manzo.

Struggling with her weight on national television can't be an easy thing. Lauren's been battling to drop pounds ever since she underwent lap band surgery in September 2011 and recently posted a photo of her diet efforts on Twitter (right). Looks like Lauren Manzo's weight loss efforts have been kicked into HIGH gear.

Let's get real: We could look at a zillion bikini body photos, but something like this is much more impressive. I like to see celebs work hard to get a great bod. This intense portion control, this is something that you and I normal folk can appreciate.

... and it works, too. Back when I was really trying to shed pounds, I always found putting things into small Tupperware and planning for the day to be tedious (because it is). The truth, though, is that although planning takes effort, that effort pays off. Look at all of the awesome options that Lauren has laid out up there. You can see just by looking at her array of treats that she's prepared, and she most definitely won't go hungry.

Just think about what could happen if she didn't prepare. Instead of having ALL of those things to nosh on over the course of a full day, lady could have opted for a horribly "healthy" salad that's actually 1,200 calories alone at a nearby bodega. I don't know about you all, but I'd rather munch the whole day through for 1,200 calories than eat it all within 12 minutes.

Kudos to Lauren on putting the work in. Now, excuse me while I go satisfy my raspberry craving. Thanks, Laur.

Are you good at planning ahead when you're on a diet, or do you find it to be tedious?

Kim Kardashian's Baby Weight Battle Just Got a Lot Easier Thanks to Kanye West

Kim Kanye WestSure, Kanye West can be a bit frightening with all of this lashing out at paparazzi business, but the man's proving to be a stellar dad to little baby North and, more importantly, an excellent partner (and, cough, husband-to-be) to his girlfriend Kim Kardashian. There have been loads of reports that Kim's worried about losing the baby weight as of, like, yesterday. Lucky for her, she's with a man who thinks she's beautiful just the way she is. Yeah, get this: a source tells Hollywood Life that Yeezy loves Kim's curves and is most definitely NOT pushing her to exercise. In other words: Kanye's doing whatever he can not to stress Kim out about the extra weight.

Now that's the kind of man that I wouldn't mind having around. Kanye's relaxed attitude about Kim's baby weight takes a whole LOT of pressure off. I mean, come on, who doesn't wanna look good for their man -- amiright?!

Losing weight is hard as it is. However, the last thing a woman needs is to be in the kind of relationship where they feel constant pressure from the person they're interested in to look perfect. A supportive significant other is so so crucial when you're at a low-point with your self esteem and body image. Their love, support, and patience can literally make ALL the difference in your mentality.

Sure, if you're attached, a supportive husband or boyfriend is essential to dropping pounds and staying healthy. However, there are other things that help too.

Incorporating constant activity: I'm not saying you should be going out and running eight miles every morning. I am, however, saying don't be afraid to walk the extra five blocks to the farther subway station or take the stairs instead of the escalator at your local shopping mall. Believe me, those extra steps and effort will add up over time.

Keeping things in perspective: The most important thing is that, no matter your weight, you're healthy. Sometimes being healthy doesn't mean being stick-thin. Think about your lifestyle and what works for you, and understand that a size 2 doesn't mean success.

Setting realistic goals: Instead of saying "I want to lose 50 pounds," set smaller, more realistic milestones. After each small milestone, give yourself a reward. For example: Your first goal could be running a full mile without stopping. When you accomplish it, reward yourself with a new workout tank or fun pair of shorts.

Do you have a significant other who is really supportive of your weight loss efforts? What helps you stay on track?

woman standing on scaleMotivation to get up and go work out is often hard to come by, so of course there's an entire market devoted to tools -- personal trainers, workout journals, websites that pay you to meet your goals, etc. -- that'll encourage us to get off the couch. One Japanese company hopes people who want to lose weight will be encouraged by their Nenshou app ...

The gist: You try to win the affections of these sexy anime cartoon guys by working out. All the while the virtual object of your affection insults you with so-called "motivational" statements like, "Fat girl, do some more exercise, okay?" No joke.

And wait, it gets even MORE twisted ...

When you first start your weight loss "journey" with the app, you create an animated character who meets up with their childhood sweetheart who says you're fat and need to lose weight. Ugghh. That love interest then morphs into a personal trainer hottie (the aforementioned bully) who becomes more and more romantically interested in you as you lose weight.

As you exercise, the "trainer" screams at you while keeping count of your sit-ups or laps. But no fear. If you accomplish what the trainer wants you to, you'll be rewarded in increasingly lovey-dovey scenarios. It's like Choose Your Own Adventure: The Weight Loss Edition. Except no matter what way it goes, the adventure sounds all sorts of screwed-up! (By the way, it bears noting that the original version of the app was aimed at men and featured pretty anime women helping guys lose weight with words of encouragement and compliments. So the developers aren't just fat-shamers, but they're sexist, too. Lovely.)

For one thing, fat-shaming, bullying, yelling, and screaming at someone is NEVER the way to get through to them, to motivate them, to encourage healthy weight loss. I can't stand when I hear about trainers who are constantly berating their clients or spinning instructors who act like drill sergeants. I guess that works for some people, but I can't imagine why. It only seems to serve to perpetuate negativity! And stress! Neither of which is exactly conducive to shedding pounds.

Furthermore, equating more love with more weight loss is all sorts of insane. Especially for an app that will most likely be used by younger women and girls. What is wrong with the people behind this? Fingers crossed that most people are smart enough to realize that this cruel joke of an app is anything but healthy.

How sick is this?! Do you find trainers or instructors who yell motivating?

The 3 Worst Things About My 70-Pound Weight Loss

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota
by Emily Abbate 17 hours ago

woman on scaleLosing 70 pounds was probably one of the most emotionally taxing experiences I've ever been through. Granted, it was a four-year difficult weight loss, but during the journey, I grew as a person. I learned about myself. I contemplated the kind of person I wanted to be. I created goals. I did a lot of soul searching. I developed new hobbies, many of them active.

Mostly, the outcome from my journey has been positive. I'm a happier person who enjoys life more. I'm a healthier person who has more energy. I feel like my overall outlook on life is much much more positive and I try to associate myself with people who are positive, as well.

But don't get me wrong ... there have been negatives, too.

WHOA. I'm not complaining. I promise, really. I'm just being real with you here. Thus I present you with the 3 worst things about my 70-pound weight loss:

1. Clothes are fucking expensive. Sorry for the expletive, but it's true. I'm the kind of woman who searches around for the right pair of jeans for weeks, only to contemplate buying them upon location because of their hefty price tag. Now, imagine doing that ... for all your clothes. During those four years I developed a habit of waiting to buy new clothes, thinking to myself that if I wasn't done losing weight, then there was no point to drop the cash. Many times, I was right.

But not all the time. And when it came time to cave in, buy everything from thongs and bras to tops and dresses -- it added up, quickly. That old college job delivering newspapers helped with that. Yeah, I won't bother explaining how I got involved in that.

2. People who don't care about you will pretend to. Mostly men (if you're straight). For me, it's been primarily old high school and college classmates who I haven't spoken to in years. These men remember me larger. They remember me as someone who I'm most certainly not anymore. I've been approached at bars, messaged on Facebook, emailed, texted ... all by men who I may have only spoken three words to back in the day. I'm sorry, but I'm not buying your "we should catch up!" or "it's been years!" fake excitement bit for a minute. You're not getting in my pants.

Of course, I've been contacted by women too. Women who don't really care what I've been doing for the last bazillion years, but want to know how I did it. While I appreciate the messages and often respond because I feel like it's good karma, the usual trend is they fall off the face of the earth after I do that. Oh well, if I can help someone better their life, too, then it's worth it.

3. Your perception of yourself may never fully change. I know for a fact that I look like a completely different person now. I'm proud of who I have become and the hard work that it took me to get here. But I think I will always, if only for a few seconds sometimes, see myself as larger than I really am. Heck, most women (and men) deal with this even if they haven't been on a similar journey.

What's important, though, is I don't find myself doing crazy things because of this altered perception. On the days I feel "fat," I still feel lucky. Does that mean I won't run an extra mile that day during my workout? I very well may. But what's important is that I'm realistic, that I stay thankful, and that I stay true to myself.

Have you ever lost a lot of weight? Did you find any negatives?
