insect pornOnce upon a time, pornography was the most popular thing on the Internet. Now? Now, it's social media, dear friends. According to Wikipedia, "Social media has overtaken pornography as the No. 1 activity on the web". Actually, it's been this way for some time now, but can we please take a moment to discuss this, because this is insane?!

People would rather look at photos of latte foam from a person they used to work with than, well, boobs. What a disappointment we've become.

Now, for all you porn fans out there, don't you worry. The industry is still booming. It's just the social media industry is booming ... more. And I can't help but think that, if people would prefer to go on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram over, ah, getting off, they're probably choosing it over the real thing, too. (Sex, people, I'm talking about sex.)

Social media, in every sense of the word, is addictive. We have collectively become a society who's obsessed with knowing what other people are doing at all times, and having other people know what we're doing at all times -- even if it's nothing at all. Sitting in traffic? I'll upload a picture! Just bought a Starbucks? I'll upload a picture! Giving birth? I'll upload a picture! It's, quite literally, taken over our lives. And the fact that it's surpassed porn -- free porn! -- as the most common activity on the web 100 percent solidifies this.

As I'm writing this, I've realized that it may come off like I'm some giant porn supporter or something -- a dirty bird, if you will -- but I'm not. I'm so not. I'm just really sick of social med-- Oh my god, this girl I know just posted the cutest photo of her new puppy to Instagram! Like! #adorable

Do you feel like social media has taken over society? In a bad way?

benedict cumberbatch If you've seen Benedict Cumberbatch in Sherlock or Star Trek: Into Darkness, it's hard to imagine him ever losing his cool. That's probably part of his appeal -- that and his drool-worthy British accent. It's also hard to imagine him living anything other than a very sheltered life. I mean, come on, his name wouldn't look out of place on a list of England's royals.

But not everything is always as it appears. Sometimes even the rakishly handsome British types experience experiences and that's part of what makes them choose to live exceptional lives. That's right. I'm getting deep.

Cumberbatch was shooting a miniseries in South Africa in 2005. It was there that he and two friends found themselves looking down the barrel of a gun. It's not the sort of peril you expect to find on a film set where presumably your every whim is managed. The group's car had broken down in a dangerous neighborhood leaving them sitting ducks.

He and his friends were attacked by a group of men. Cumberbatch found himself tied up and shoved into the trunk of a car. A million thoughts about his future and the possible outcomes of this attack ran through his head:

I was scared, really scared. I said: "What are you going to do with us? Are you going to kill us?" I was really worried that I was going to get ... tortured or toyed with in some way, some act of control and savagery.

Inexplicably and out of the blue, the kidnappers released their victims allowing them to flee to safety. Cumberbatch always projects an aura of stoicism in the roles he undertakes. You can't help but wonder if a lot of that strength coming from his performances is born from being a real survivor.

Do you think his past experiences have made Benedict a different kind of actor?

cookie doughIf you were planning on baking up a batch of cookies for Labor Day, better check that your cookie dough isn't affected by a new recall! ConAgra along with the FDA, is recalling several packages of Kroger brand ready-made chocolate chip cookie dough, which mistakenly contain peanut butter

The recall includes Kroger Break ‘N Bake 16-ounce chocolate chip cookie dough packages with the Unit UPC11110 87530 and a “Use by” date of November 24, 2013. Those packages may contain peanut butter cup cookie dough instead of chocolate chip, the company says. Eesh! Definitely anyone with a peanut allergy would want to know, right?! Thank goodness for the recall. And that no illnesses related to the cookie dough have been reported.

The affected packages were sold in Kroger, Dillons, Baker's, Gerbes, Foods Co., Food 4 Less, Fred Meyer, Fry's, Jay C, Owen's, Pay Less, Scott's, QFC, Ralphs, and Smith's grocery stores in 26 states: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, California, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming. Oof.

However, Kroger stores in Louisiana and Texas were not affected, nor were stores in western Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, western Kentucky, and southern Missouri.

Shoppers who have purchased the cookie dough can return it to the store where they purchased it for a full refund. And customers with additional questions can call the ConAgra Foods customer relations line at 800-252-0634.

Here's even more information from the FDA.

Are you freaked by this recall?

cauliflower crust pizzaI have to admit I was a bit wary of cauliflower crust pizza. I've seen it floating all over the web, with people posting pictures of it on Pinterest and raving about it on Facebook, but I'm not a huge fan of the vegetable in general (shh, don't tell my kids), so I wasn't sure what to expect. Honestly though, it's delicious.

There's no flour in the crust at all, which means it's both gluten-free and low-carb, which is awesome. Plus, instead of nutritionally void plain white crust, this is packed with all the vitamins of cauliflower. As for the taste, I won't say it tastes just like regular pizza, but it is incredible in its own way, and people will be shocked when they find out the crust is made of cauliflower. I like this basic recipe from Epicurious, though I like to add more fresh garlic than they suggest. You can then top with the sauce and other fixings you like -- pepperoni and mushroom are my personal favorites.

1/2 LARGE head cauliflower (or 2+ cups shredded cauliflower)
1 large egg
1 cup finely shredded mozzarella cheese (or try another kind!)
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon dried minced garlic (or fresh garlic)
1/2 teaspoon onion salt

Shred the cauliflower into small crumbles. You can use the food processor if you'd like, but you just want crumbles, not puree. You'll need a total of about 2 cups or so of cauliflower crumbles (which is about half a large head of cauliflower. Place the cauliflower crumbles in a large bowl and microwave them (dry) for 8 minutes (see Tips below if you do not have a microwave). Give the cauliflower a chance to cool.

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F. Spray a cookie sheet or pizza pan with nonstick spray (or use a nonstick surface).

In a medium bowl, mix the cauliflower crumbles (about 1 1/2 cups since they shrink after cooking) with the remaining crust ingredients.

Pat the "crust" into a 9 to 12-inch round on the prepared pan. Spray the crust lightly with nonstick spray and bake for 15 minutes (or until golden). Remove the crust from the oven and turn the heat up to broil.

Afterwards, just top the crust and broil for a minute to melt the cheese and heat the toppings/sauce.
