Racist ‘Asian Girlz’ Video Should Get Group Shamed Out of the Music Industry Forever (VIDEO)

Most of the time, I think our vigilantly PC culture can be pretty annoying. Political correctness gets people riled up over the silliest things, creating tension and causing folks to read way too much into/be offended by certain issues. Plus, sometimes we could all use a dose of non-PC humor. Our differences can actually be funny! But then you go and watch something like Day Above Ground's music video, "Asian Girlz," and you realize there are things we shouldn't lighten up or shut up about.

It's insulting to Asians. It's insulting to women. It's insulting to music in general. There's always a fine line between posting something like this, thus bringing it awareness and clicks, and needing an outlet to unleash one's rage. My rage won this round.

I even hate to post the video, but hopefully the backlash this band will receive will ensure they'll never make headlines (or a dime) again.

This is probably one of the most NSFW videos ever. There's some skin, some swearing, and of course the whole thing is just disgusting. You have been warned:

Forgive my overuse of quotation marks for the rest of this post, but COME ON. As you can see, while the band is trapped in a bird cage, an Asian model strips down while the "singers" unleash every single Asian stereotype ever in their "song." Every member of the band goes out with an Asian girl, which you can see in Polaroid photos. The model proceeds to pick up the bird cage, draws a bath, then lets the mini idiots swim around in her bath water. OMG, how the hell was something like this even made?

Here are some of the worst "lyrics":

I love your creamy yellow thighs

Then the whole last verse is a list of gems that include "flied lice," "Sailor Moon," and to top it all off, "fa ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra." 

It'd be one thing if this were clever or funny or satirical. I love me a good Asian joke and am never hesitant to poke fun of myself. That scene in A Christmas Story was freakin' hilarious. But this "song" is really so vile and nasty, so unoriginal and degrading, I felt depressed for all of humanity after watching this video. I'm not so naive that I don't think some men have an "Asian fetish", but please don't tell me this is actually a "compliment" for Asian women, that this video shows they're desirable. It's the exact opposite, and it in fact made me feel really terrible about myself.

Levy Tran, the "Asian Girl" in the video, said she regretted participating in this ridiculousness on Twitter: "I sincerely apologize to all who feels that I set Asian women back 50 yrs. I know I lost respect from a lot of ppl. It wasn't my intention."

Of course, the band doesn't think so. They told Dlisted, "WE ARE NOT RACIST, HAHA! I mean, look at our band, it’s multicultural!! The guy in the bow-tie, our cutie bass player, was born in Indonesia, and he steals the show!! Please don’t take this tongue-in-cheek tribute to some of the most gorgeous women on the planet too seriously!!"

Band, we've heard more than enough from you. Seriously, it's amazing how I've gone through my entire life listening to taunts and jokes about these stereotypes due to my ethnicity, stereotypes I've constantly tried to fight against and dispel, and here they all are, listed for me in all their glory in one "song." Thanks, guys. I really needed that today.

Ariel Castro's Repugnant Victim-Blaming Statement Makes Us Glad He’ll Go Away Forever (VIDEO)

Ariel Castro was sentenced to life in prison today. He was allowed to make a statement and it showed how deranged and sociopathic he is. In a rambling speech that focused mostly on himself, he made excuses for everything he did, refused all responsibility, and even made outrageous claims that the house where he tortured his victims was "normal" and "harmonious."

Castro has invented some kind of sick fantasy world in which the three women he kidnapped, Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight, may have been unable to leave his house, but were otherwise fine and content.

"I'm a good person," he told the judge. "I'm not a violent person. There was a lot of harmony in that house."

He went on to say that sex with the victims was mostly consensual and that they asked him for sex. "As God as my witness, I never tortured these victims, I never beat them," he claimed, despite reams of evidence to the contrary.

Earlier in the day, Castro's defense attorney pointed out that Amanda Berry had described sex with Castro that resulted in the birth of her daughter, Jocelyn, was "consensual." An expert ascribes this to Stockholm Syndrome, in which the kidnapped party eventually becomes so helpless and infantalized that the kidnapper is seen as the "parent."

Earlier testimony said that the women were bound with chains, forced to wear motorcycle helmets when raped, and were often starved, left in severe heat or cold, and otherwise tortured. Castro had the house rigged with a system of alarms that would go off if any of them tried to escape. He also had a gun and often showed it to them to "control" them as he admitted to police.

In his statement, Castro blamed his "sexual addiction" for his kidnapping of the women -- saying he couldn't control himself any more than an alcoholic could control drinking. He also blamed his "stressful" job as a bus driver. He even blamed the FBI for not questioning him sooner.

In his continued blaming of the victims, he said, "These girls were not virgins and had been with multiple partners before me. I did not prey on these women."

He said that since the women "looked" okay, and pointed to recent video of Amanda Berry "partying," then it was proof that they enjoyed being in the house and were not traumatized.

The depths of narcissism on display were truly astounding. As the judge reprimanded him: "You say there was harmony in that house, but I don't think one other person in America would agree with you."

Castro did apologize to the victims and even thanked them for some bizarre reason; however, it was clear from everything he said that this calculatingly cruel individual thinks he did nothing wrong.

He'll have a lot of time in prison to reconsider it.

Snooki's Party Animal Past Will Haunt Her Forever

Back when Snooki was a single, minglin' partymeister obsessed with fist-pumping and pounding whatever shots were in sight on the boardwalks of the Jersey Shore -- and of course on the MTV reality show of the same name -- it made sense that the city of Florence might have reservations about allowing Snooki and co. to film the show there. Even a year and a half ago, when the city of Hoboken wasn't keen on the idea of Snooki & JWoww filming there and denied MTV a film permit, I could sort of understand. But now, New Jersey's Berkeley Township is lawyering up to protest filming in the Pelican Island neighborhood ... and it makes absolutely no sense at all.

Apparently, residents think the possibility is a "disgrace" and "fear the show will bring a circus-like atmosphere and will threaten the safety of the homes they are rebuilding in the wake of Hurricane Sandy," The Star-Ledger reports. Give me a break. Do they have any idea who Snooki is these days?!

I understand what they're concerned about, but could they also please get with the times? At least judging from her Instagram and Twitter presence, Snooki's done a full Nicole Richie, e.g., gone from clubbin' famemonger to low-key, fashionable, and fit mama-turned-entrepreneur. She's more interested in quiet nights at home with her fiance Jionni and cute-as-a-button baby boy Lorenzo than going out and making a scene. The big excitement in her life is doing hardcore workouts and playing dress-up to take selfies. Gasp! Thus, I have a feeling she's grown up so much that MTV isn't going to be able to turn this season of Snooki & JWoww into a rowdy, drama-filled, raucous 24/7/365 party -- even if they WANTED to!

Sure, I could see a town being concerned in general about filming of any sort. Or the reputation their area might get from being labeled "the place where Snooki and JWoww spent their summer vacation." But really, I can't see how it wouldn't have a positive effect! Seems to me it would only serve to make the area a more popular destination, which would help their local economy and rebuilding efforts!

Snooki herself responded to all the brouhaha, taking to Instagram to say:

Unable how (sic) adults are trying to ban my son, fiancé and I from enjoying our summer at the shore. Grow up, get over yourself and move on. This is not how we should be treating one another. Absolutely sick and very sad. I pray for you. There's much bigger things to worry about in life than trying to ban my family from your neighborhood.

Couldn't agree more! Hope Snooki and MTV win this ridiculous fight ... or better yet, find another town to film in that understands that welcoming her with open arms is absolutely NBD these days.

Kate Middleton Baby Watch on Hold While the Queen Changes England Forever

Just when we thought the big news out of the U.K. this week would be the birth of Kate Middleton and Prince William's little Prince or Princess, the Queen Elizabeth II had to go and upstage the royal baby watch by making her own history! Her Royal Highness signed a bill making gay marriage legal throughout England and Wales. Whoohoo!

The signing was a formality, after the bill cleared its final hurdle in the lower house of the country's parliament yesterday. Scotland and Ireland still aren't all caught up -- Scotland may make gay marriage legal by 2015, but Protestant parties defeated a marriage equality law in Northern Ireland earlier this year -- but still, what an awesome, BOLD move for England and Wales! So bold that the Telegraph calls it "one of the most radical pieces of social legislation of her reign." 

Radical, perhaps, but also so progressive and so about-damn-time! 

England and Wales clearly have a lot to celebrate today, but this is also a lesson for those of us on this side of the pond. That despite our recent victories -- doing away with DOMA and legalizing same-sex marriage in various states -- we should be a little bit ashamed of ourselves that we can't get a sweeping measure passed at the federal level.

If sweeping measures like DOMA and Don't Ask, Don't Tell that stood in the way of equality could be passed 20 years ago, we can figure out a way to pass legislation that does the opposite today. After all, we pride ourselves on being pretty forward-thinking, cutting-edge, right? But today, looking at what the British government has done, we're not nearly as progressive as we fancy ourselves.
