Couple Divorces and Splits Up Their Twin Babies in Real Life 'Parent Trap'

baby footWhen I first heard that dads David Tutera and Ryan Jurica are raising their twin babies separately after their divorce, I couldn't help but get a bit of a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach.

Celebrity event planner David and his ex Ryan welcomed the twins via a surrogate -- but they decided to end their relationship very soon after the embryo transfer was complete. David admits that they never even talked about keeping the babies together. Instead, David has custody of his biological daughter, Cielo, and is raising her in California, while Ryan is bringing up her brother who is his biological child, Cedric, all the way across the country in Connecticut.

And even though David says he and his ex want to make sure their babies have a relationship -- it's hard to understand why on earth they would choose to separate a brother and sister who deserve to grow up together, especially considering they shared a womb for nine months. How could they bring themselves to pull them apart like that?

I know they live on opposite coasts and all, but couldn't they have worked out some sort of custody arrangement where they each had the babies for six months out of the year or something like that? Sure, it would be tough for them to go back and forth between parents -- but isn't it worse that they will never really know each other, or at least they won't have the opportunity of experiencing a real sibling relationship?

This is basically like a real life version of The Parent Trap, and if you ask me, these men are being incredibly selfish and immature. When you become a parent, you have to realize that your priorities change overnight -- and it's not all about you anymore. The happiness and well being of your children HAVE to come first, even if the resulting situation is less than ideal for you.

This arrangement would be horrible enough if these children were a regular brother and sister, but the fact that they're twins makes it even harder to accept. Twins share such a deep, special bond. David and Ryan are nuts if they think the babies won't sense that there is something missing in their lives as they get older. And their little plan could really wind up hurting them more than their divorce ever did, because there is a very good chance the twins will resent them when they grow up. I mean, their own fathers deliberately tore them apart and took away their opportunity to share their lives, which could be a pretty hard thing to forgive down the line.

Hopefully once the dust settles a bit more on their split, they'll come to their senses and work out a way to ensure that these children truly get to know each other as brother and sister -- because that's the only way it should be. And if they don't? Then they should probably prepare themselves for the therapy bills they're going to have to pay for when their kids start having issues later in life.

Are you outraged over what these dads have done?

Fat Babies Are on the Rise in America: Guess How Much They Weigh?!

newbornSo, you know how there have been babies born recently who are a whole lot bigger than your average newborn? Like the 13.47-pound infant who was born in Germany last month? Or the 15-pound, 7-ounce boy who arrived back in March in the U.K.? (Yowza.)

Yeah, well now doctors are getting concerned about women having bigger newborns. There has been a 15 to 25 percent increase in "oversized" babies in developed countries (including the U.S.), which they attribute to more moms being obese.

And as you will hear in this video, they've now come up with a new "cutoff" weight as far as what constitutes a newborn being considered a fat baby.

OMG, 8 pounds, 13 ounces?!? That's it?

My little guy weighed in right at 8 pounds, 1 ounce, so I guess he made the cutoff, which means despite the fact that I put on 50 pounds while pregnant with him, I must not have been obese. (Winning.) But even so -- all I heard from people after his birth were things like, "He's HUGE! What the heck did you eat for those nine months?"

And up until that point, I never really considered an 8-pounder to be a big baby, but apparently in the city of Denver where I delivered, that's basically gigantic. (Because of the altitude and super healthy people and all.)

Yes, a 15-pound baby is probably cause for concern -- but should doctors really be getting bent out of shape about babies roughly half that size? (Personally, I don't think so.)

And hasn't it been hammered into our brains for years that a "big, healthy baby" is a good thing? This cutoff number just seems so contradictory, and I'm guessing it's going to wind up confusing a lot of people.

With how weight obsessed our society already is, I worry that the new fat baby number is going to freak out new moms who happen to have infants who aren't teeny-tiny. They really don't need something extra to stress over during those first few weeks.

Ugh. I can picture it now. Some poor new mom is going to bring her 9-pound baby home from the hospital, hear this report, immediately panic, and call the pediatrician wondering if her newborn needs to go on a diet. And then he'll tell her "absolutely not!" because she needs to be breastfeeding that baby every two hours so he'll get the nutrition he needs to put on weight and then she'll be totally confused.

Unless babies are outrageously huge -- can we go ahead and drop the "fat" label, or at least up the number just a little bit? (Like maybe 11 pounds?)

How big was your baby at birth?

6 Things Moms Will NEVER Do While Their Kids Are Still Babies

nicole fabian-weberWhile there really is nothing better than having a baby, let's get real here: It can be kind of restricting. You hear it a million times when you're pregnant, how different things are going to be after having a child, but you really can't grasp it until you actually, physically, have a baby. They're so, so cute, but life as you knew it is over.

Well, at least for a while.

Here are 6 things moms of babies can kiss goodbye. Don't worry, it won't always be this hard.

1. Sleep in. Obvious? Yes. But I can't write a list like this and not include it. You will never sleep in again! Okay, there will be times when your partner takes care of the babe while you catch up on sleep, but if you think you're in for a leisurely cup of coffee and the paper when you wake up, you're sorely mistaken, friend. Sowwy.

2. Relax on a vacation. I want you to get a nice picture in your head of the last childless vacation you took -- because that, for a long time, will be the last relaxing vacation you took.

3. Take a vacation. Hell, depending on who you are and your baby's temperament, you might not even be taking vacations. Again, sowwy.

4. Be able to spend time "getting ready". "Getting ready" now means throwing on whatever's clean and putting your hair in a bun. May I suggest showering and picking out clothes at night, for those of you who "care what you look like"?

5. Having an uninterrupted adult conversation (when baby's awake). When your baby is asleep, talk away! But when she's up, it isn't quite that simple. When you have a baby or a young toddler, you have to be ready for a fall or a spill at all times. You know the moms at the park who sit on the bench and chat while their kids play? Yeah, you're not quite there yet.

6. Care about any of the above. The sleep thing can be a bit unnerving, but you have a baby! What's better than that?!

What things do you no longer do now that you have a baby?
