Miley Cyrus's Latest Comments Should Have Every Parent Outraged

In general, I am not one of those parents who believes celebrities can or should be considered role models for our children. They are here to entertain, not enlighten or educate. Even those that start off seemingly angelic (Britney, Chris Brown) eventually end up scaring the crap out of us with some truly shocking behavior. But even the most scandalous of stars go out of their way to hide any illegal activity -- well all except Miley Cyrus. She not only flaunts her drug use, she glamorizes it.

In the new issue of Rolling Stone, she had this to say about smoking marijuana: "Weed is the best drug on earth," especially compared to cocaine. She went on to say, "One time I smoked a joint with peyote in it, and I saw a wolf howling at the moon ... Hollywood is a coke town, but weed is much better. And Molly too. Those are happy drugs -- social drugs. They make you want to be with friends. You're out in the open. You're not in a bathroom."

I guess I should be happy she at least deemed cocaine "gross." But her comments about pot and the club drug Molly (also known as MDMA) are dangerous at best. Why? Because our kids will want to emulate her and she makes it sound like it's no big deal. I'm not naive enough to think that other stars aren't taking a toke -- I know they are. I have even seen some do it when I used to go on assignments for an entertainment magazine. They just aren't so brazen about promoting it, especially those with so many young, impressionable fans.

It's not about being a role model, it's about being a responsible human being. I could overlook the twerking, her barely there wardrobe, and her devil-may-care attitude, but her flippant chit-chat about using and enjoying illegal drugs send the wrong message to kids, as far as I'm concerned. She just doesn't care. That's just sad. That's just wrong.
