You guys, prepare to die of cute. Prepare for your inevitable demise at the hands of an adorable little girl and her pink toy guitar-playing dad as they sing "Tonight You Belong to Me." Dad Benjamin Ames wanted to distract his daughter, who couldn't fall asleep because she thought she was hearing fireworks. Was she? Well ... I don't hear any. But she interrupts the song several times to tell her dad exactly how they should pause whenever they hear fireworks.

If you've ever tried to do something with a little interrupter, you'll relate. It's exasperating! But Ames shows a lot of patience with his daughter. Just so you know, they do finally get through the whole song. If daddy-daughter harmonies make you melt, you'll want to hang in there past the one-minute mark. I think it's worth it. But of course, the interruptions are funny, too.

I love how she knows all the words! I feel like every child needs at least one classic they can sing all the way through (or almost) with their parents. Every kid needs a song that comforts them at night when there are so many strange sounds.

It's kind of a long video (sad that 3:12 minutes is considered long ...), but if you have the time, they get to the horn section around the two-minute mark. It just ratchets up the charming hilarity even more. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to watch this video yet again and dissolve into a puddle of estrogen and sentimentality under my desk here.

12-Year-Old Boy With Scary Brain Eating Amoeba to Be Taken Off Life Support

In a horrifying story out of Florida, a 12-year-old boy has lost his battle to fight the brain eating amoeba he caught while swimming in a ditch this summer. Zachary Reyna of LaBelle, Florida was diagnosed with primary amoebic meningoencephalitis, which is a form of meningitis caused by the amoeba naegleria fowleri. He never recovered.

The amoeba infects people when they take in contaminated water through the nose, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Although it is rare, when it strikes, it is often deadly. 

Heartbreakingly, Reyna is never going to recover and though he is on a ventilator for today, his parents plan to take him off tonight. As a parent, it is something that just sends chills down your spine. How could this happen?

Apparently Zach was infected while knee boarding with friends in a ditch near his family's home on August 3. Earlier this month, a girl contracted the same deadly illness and managed to survive it, but it is rare to survive once infected.

For parents, it's important to know the initial symptoms. They are vomiting, fever, nausea, and stiff neck. As it progresses patients exhibit confusion, lack of attention to people and surroundings, loss of balance, seizures, and hallucinations. Death can come between one and 12 days.

This infection is more common in the Southeastern United States and can best be avoided by wearing a nose plug. Of course, it can also be avoided by never allowing children to go into the water, but how realistic is that option?

Sadly, there are many dangers we can't see and we can't anticipate. As parents, our job is to keep our kids as safe as we can by playing the odds. While I would likely not play in a ditch, I can imagine to a 12-year-old boy, that would look like a great time. Never in a million years could anyone have imagined what horror might come from it.

It's a tragedy, to be sure. But it's rare. And while we can talk about nose plugs and what to look out for, the reality is, we can't avoid every danger in the world.

Reyna's parents plan to donate his organs in the ultimate act of generosity. My heart is broken for them and I hope they can find strength in this horrible time.

Residents of a South Florida apartment complex are shaken this morning after a shooting left seven people dead in their community. Police were called yesterday evening around 6:30 p.m. with reports that shots had been fired near the complex, which is located in Hialeah, near Miami.

A gunman was found to be holding two hostages in the building when a crisis team arrived, and though they did establish communication with the man, negotiation talks "fell apart," so a SWAT team stormed the building early this morning and wound up killing the gunman.

The two hostages survived, but sadly, the shooter killed six other people before he was shot by officers himself.

His victims included three women and two men who were found inside apartment units in the building, and one other man -- who was simply walking across the street towards another apartment complex with his children when the gunman shot him. As of now, police cannot confirm whether he was killed by a stray bullet, or if the gunman fired directly at him from a balcony. Either way, it's so horrible to think about those children witnessing their father being shot and killed right in front of their eyes.

An investigation is underway to try and determine what this man's motive was, and police still have yet to identify him or his victims.
