brownie ice cream sandwichIs it me, or is there suddenly a lot of creative, scrumptious-looking ice cream sandwiches everywhere? Just last week or so, we spotted the strawberry Pop-Tart ice cream sandwich at Carl's Jr. And then just days after that, we spotted the ice cream donut sandwich, another great breakthrough in ice cream sandwiching. Hello, delicious inventions! It got me thinking -- couldn't I make these at home myself? Once I got started with these two, the ideas just kept flooding in. So here's some ice cream sandwich ideas for you to try. Enjoy!

First of all, a recommendation. Rather than letting the ice cream soften enough for you to spread it over whatever, I recommend slicing hard, frozen ice cream right through the carton with your heaviest serrated knife. Then you can trim the ice cream down to the right size. Wrap the sandwich immediately after you make it and put it right back in the freezer.

Ice Cream Donut Sandwiches Could Kill You, But at Least You'll Die Happy

ice cream donut sandwichDonuts have starred in some unlikely pairings ... They've been merged with croissants to create the cronut, and they've been used as bread in a breakfast sandwich. Now comes the one I am most excited about BY FAR: The ice cream donut sandwich. OMG.

Available exclusively (for now!) at Firecakes Donuts on Chicago's Near North Side, the sandwiches are exactly what they sound like -- a glazed donut stuffed with either homemade vanilla or espresso ice cream. The donut shop has been serving them for just $4 apiece since July 20, according to Chicagoist. What's more, you can get your fix until midnight (except for Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday).

Why did I not know about this when I was in the Windy City recently?! Also, why hasn't this been an ice cream parlor staple FOR YEARS?

Ahhh, but Firecakes isn't the only place tempting us with this unfathomably delicious treat. Similar concoctions are popping up in places like DC and NYC, where various bakeries have apparently been serving 'em for yeeears.

To be fair, it sounds so gluttonous and must have so much flippin' sugar that it could probably put the healthiest person on the planet into a diabetic shock, so it's probably best that it's not THAT readily available.

But if it were to be quite a bit more available and take off in a hot new dessert trend that rivals red velvet cupcakes and cake pops and macarons, I wouldn't be surprised. The donut ice cream sandwich has something going for it that the cronut and donut breakfast sandwich never had ... It just makes sense. And makes the mouth water just writing those words. Oof, watch out, America ... we are in trouble!

Would you try an ice cream donut sandwich? What would your ultimate donut indulgence look like?

Eating the Cream Out of Oreos and 9 Other Nearly Divorce-Worthy Food Habits

oreo jokeLadies and gentlemen, are your bizarre little food habits driving your spouse crazy? Redditor Showtunesaboutbacon was threatened with divorce the other day for eating all the cream from a bag of Oreos. Oh it was just a joke -- the divorce threat wasn't serious. But eating all the cream out of the cookies and putting them back into the bag? THAT is seriously gross. People do stuff like that, though. For all the different kinds of foods and different kinds of people in the world, there are so many different kinds of annoying food eccentricities that drive us all crazy. Here's a few of my favorites.

Putting clementine wedges on the radiator. This was a favorite trick of food writer M.F.K Fisher. She would place clementine wedges on the radiator until they got hot and plump. Then she'd put them out on snow just before eating them. It sounds like the kind of thing that would drive a husband or cat crazy.Tasting the cookie batter. Everyone does it, I know. But maybe I don't want your filthy fingers in my batter.Doll-sized leftovers. This is probably my most annoying food habit. I'll leave tiny amounts of leftover food in the refrigerator. It's there because I might want a very small snack while making dinner tomorrow. And you will be in a great deal of trouble if you eat it before I get to it because I was REALLY looking forward to that tiny dab of baba ganoush.Eating off my plate. See also: Me stabbing you in the arm with my fork.Eating/drinking out of the carton. So drinking milk right out of the carton -- this is something 60 percent of parents do while their kids aren't looking, right? There's also eating ice cream directly out of the pint carton, which I do all the time because I buy flavors no one else wants. I am smart that way.Putting the soy sauce in the refrigerator. It doesn't need to be refrigerated! Ditto: Tomatoes, peaches, apples, onions, garlic, lemons, limes, I could go on...Eating just the muffin tops. No.Salting your food before tasting it. Oh no, I'm not insulted at all. Go ahead. It probably tastes like cardboard otherwise. Good thinking.Patting the oil off your slice of pizza. Sometimes pizza is especially greasy and you just want to get rid of those gross shimmering pools. But people who give their pizza the pat-down every damn time, what the hell are you doing? You do know that's PIZZA, don't you? It's not like your pat down is going to magically transform that slice into a pizza-flavored kale leaf.

What kind of weird food habits drive you (or your loved ones) crazy?

What Your Favorite Ice Cream Flavor Says About You

strawberry ice creamYou think you like vanilla ice cream because you like the way it tastes. But could your love for vanilla also mean you're idealistic? Dr. Alan Hirsch, founder of Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation, has been looking into the crucial question, what does our favorite ice cream flavor say about us? Just in time for national ice cream month! It's food for thought.

I have no idea what Hirsch's methodology is, or if the Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation is a real thing, or just a name some blogger came up with. But what the hell. It sounds fun to find out what my favorite ice cream flavor says about me. So let's take a look!

More from The Stir: 5 Freaky Ice Cream Flavors That Will Scare You Away From Dessert (PHOTOS)

Hmm, I do not see Vietnamese Iced Coffee or Southern Banana Pudding here. But I like chocolate, too, so ...

Chocolate: dramatic, lively, charming, flirtatious, seductive, and gullible

Vanilla: impulsive, easily suggestible, and an idealist

Strawberry: tolerant, devoted, and an introvert

Mint chocolate chip: argumentative, frugal, and cautious

Rocky road: aggressive, engaging, and a good listener

Chocolate chip cookie dough: ambitious, competitive, and a visionary

Pralines and cream: loving, supportive, and prefer to avoid the spotlight

Jamoca: scrupulous, conscientious, and a moral perfectionist

Chocolate chip: generous, competent, and a go-getter

Rainbow sherbert: analytic, decisive, and a pessimistic

Okay, I kind of feel like this is the astrology chart of ice cream flavors. I mean, chocolate is kind of accurate for me except for the gullible part. (I DON'T BELIEVE YOU, DR. HIRSCH!) But some of these don't even make sense. I always thought people who prefer vanilla did so because they're boring and afraid of flavor. I kind of think a love for vanilla is antithetical to impulsive behavior.

How is an aggressive person also a good listener? And how are they getting that from a chocolate ice cream with marshmallows? Marshmallows aren't especially aggressive. Jamoca is scrupulous and moral? Ha, only if it's made from fair-trade coffee. And what's especially visionary about liking ice cream with cookie dough in it? Is that because you can imagine two desserts in one? Really?!?

I think we may be over-thinking ice cream here just a bit. Maybe my favorite ice cream flavor reveals that I'm the kind of person who likes chocolate -- and that's it.

What's your favorite ice cream flavor -- and do you buy what that flavor supposedly says about you?
