Dying Toddler Will Be Best Man at His Parents’ Wedding

Engaged couple Christine Swidorsky and Sean Stevenson are facing the impossible task of slowly saying goodbye to their 2-year-old son. Logan has leukemia, and he has only weeks to live. So with time running out for this little family, Christine and Sean have made a heartrending decision. They have moved up the date of their wedding from next year to Sunday, and their dying 2-year-old will be their best man.

Already in his short life Logan has lost a kidney and endured a stem cell transplant. He got to travel to Disney World thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation this summer, but that trip was cut short when he fell ill with septic shock. So Christine and Sean want to create one last happy memory with their son. "We want Logan in our family pictures, and we want him to see his mother and dad get married," Swidorsky says.

There's no hope left for a recovery at this point. Doctors said any more treatment will not help, and that Logan has only about two or three weeks to live. The couple has had to abruptly switch gears from trying everything to keep their son alive to preparing for a peaceful, love-filled last few days for Logan.

It will be bittersweet for Christine and Sean to look back on those wedding photos after Logan is gone. But I can see how they wouldn't want it any other way. If anything, they're lucky they get the chance to have this last, unifying family ceremony before Logan leaves.

Christine says she's just thankful she can "bring my son home and have time with him and hold him before he goes. So in that sense, I feel lucky that I at least get to say goodbye to my son ... and tell him it's going to be OK." And it must make Logan feel so loved, knowing his parents want him at the center of their wedding. People cry at weddings anyway, but I know there won't be a dry eye at this one.
