Catelynn Lowell Tyler BaltierraTeen Mom stars Tyler Baltierra and Catelynn Lowell were smart enough to know they weren't ready for parenting when daughter Carly was born in 2009. But the times they are a changin'. The duo currently starring on VH1's Couples Therapy have become guardians to a teenager!

Pretty brave for a couple who are just barely out of the teen years themselves, huh? Are they ready for this?

Well, it's off to a good start, at least.

Tyler tweeted that just two days after assuming legal responsibility of his "lil sis," she's already gotten a job:

Me & @CatelynnLowell are beyond proud of her

Tyler and Catelynn are remaining quiet on the identity of their new ward. His sister, Amber Baltierra, recently turned 25, so she's neither his "little" sister nor someone who would need a guardian. Catelynn, however, has a half-sister named Sarah who is younger than her. The two share a mom, and considering Tyler's dad is married to Cate's mom, Sarah is technically Tyler's stepsister.

Regardless of her identity, this young girl lucked out with Tyler and Catelynn. The duo are young, but they've always come across as wise for their years -- particularly Tyler. In fact it was just this week, in a particularly painful episode of Couples Therapy, that we saw how much Tyler acts like a parent to his own father. He has taken on the mantle of responsibility, and he takes it very seriously. He truly throws his heart and soul into caring about people.

And it's going to take a LOT of heart and soul to handle guardianship of a teenager.

Babies are relatively easy to love. They're cute and cuddly. Teens, on the other hand, are a mess of hormones, and they carry with them the baggage of their time on this planet. In situations where a teenager ends up with a guardian, they're very likely to have a lot of hurt and anger over the circumstances that put them in this situation. A guardian needs to be supportive and understanding but not too understanding. After all, they still need to be able to lay down the law and discipline a kid who is still in need of parenting.

It's not going to be easy for Catelynn and Tyler. But something tells me they're the perfect people to do this. They've been through tough teen years, so they know what NOT to do as parents.

What kind of parents do you think these two will be?
