Toddler Elaina Steinfurth's Remains Likely Moved After Cops Searched Her Mom's House

missing girl Elaina SteinfurthWhen news came out the other day that human remains had been found in the home missing Ohio toddler Elaina Steinfurth shared with her mom and mom's boyfriend, I think we all had the same question. Why now? Why didn't police find that box back in June, when baby Elaina went missing? They've been searching for the toddler for months now; surely they could have found this sooner?

It seems the answer could result in even more criminal charges.

Cops say the body was found inside a box that was behind other containers and piles of trash in a detached garage on the property Elaina's mom, Angela Mories Steinfurth, shared with her boyfriend, Steven King, property King owned. An autopsy performed last week was inconclusive, and DNA identification is expected to take several weeks, but police say they "think" the body belongs to Elaina.

So why now?

Well, according to Angela's stepfather, Richard Schiewe, the body was moved. Schiewe, who has pretty much said from the get-go that he thinks his granddaughter is dead, said he was there when police first searched the garage, and there was no box in the rafters.

That explains why police didn't find it; it wasn't their ineptitude. But are you thinking what I'm thinking? Someone tampered with evidence here.

We don't know right now if the human remains are Elaina or -- if they are -- how she died. So we can't say whether there should be murder charges.

But for the body to have suddenly appeared where it wasn't? That means someone was purposely trying to hide it from police.

It makes it hard to believe natural causes could be the cause for the death, for one. It also points to someone making it that much harder for the police to get to the bottom of this and give poor Elaina's father and his family the answers they so desperately need. It's like a sick game being played with their heads, and with this body, which deserves so much better.

Whatever happens next, someone needs to be hit with charges for this.

What do you make of the body being moved? Is someone playing games with this family?

Toddler Shot and Killed by Bullet Believed to Be Meant for His Dad

strollerA gang-related shooting claimed an unbearably young victim. A 16-month-old toddler was killed by a bullet meant for his father, investigators believe. Anthony Hennis was pushing his son, Antiq, in a stroller when a gunman took four shots at him with a .45-caliber handgun. One of the bullets cruelly entered Antiq's skull and ended his life. Other bullet holes were found in the stroller. Hennis ran from the scene screaming that his baby had been shot.

Police say Hennis will not cooperate with trying to find his son's killer, though. "Mr. Hennis has not been cooperative with us,” says Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly. “He has not answered questions. We’re still trying to, obviously, determine his contacts -- and he has an extensive arrest record, so we are looking into his relationships.” Why won't Hennis help the police find his son's killer? Is it just because of his arrest record?

Witnesses say the shooting was gang-related over a dispute between the father and the shooter's brother. Given just those details, it would be easy to assume that the father has something incriminating to hide. Hennis is an ex-convict with a record of 23 arrests, mostly for drug-related charges. But I think it's too simplistic to assume that's the only, or main, reason why he's not cooperating. I think it's also likely that he's grown up distrusting the police in general. He may not feel safe opening up to the police, even for this.

It's not like Hennis doesn't care about his baby's death or finding the killer. Family members say he's devastated by the murder. His grandmother says, "He can't live without that baby. He's always with him. That baby is his life."

At any rate, the police have leads, and people in the community claim they know exactly who the killer is and are working to help the police apprehend him. It's horrible to think someone could be cold-hearted and careless enough to shoot at a man within such close proximity to a helpless baby.

Why do you think Hennis is refusing to cooperate with the police to find his child's murderer?

As worried as we all get about our children, most of us have it damn good compared to living in a war-torn country. Parents in Syria are going through hell right now, as reports have it that innocent women and children were recently killed with a nerve gas attack by the government. One young Syrian dad thought his toddler son had died in the horrific attack. But it turned out he was alive -- and well. The reaction when he's reunited with his little boy for the first time after thinking he'd lost him is one that will make parents weep.

The video was reportedly filmed in the Damascus suburb of Zamalka, where up to 1,700 people were reportedly gassed last week. Pictures of children laid out dead under sheets were all over the news. It's a horrific and tragic scenario over there.

But one little boy beat the odds. He was found alive. And when his father sees him for the first time, it's indescribable. The video was uploaded to YouTube and has since gone viral.

It starts off with what looks like a relative of the boy tearfully taking him from another man's arms as he sees he is okay. He hugs him fiercely, crying and smiling. Other men gather around with the same tearfully joyous expression.

Then the father comes out of a nearby building. He begins screaming. At first, it's hard to tell if he's upset or happy. But it becomes apparent these are screams of joy as he grabs the child and begins hugging him. It is one of the most gut-wrenching scenes ever.

The man is so overcome that he sinks to the ground, almost fainting. At this point, some other men take the child away so the father can compose himself. They help him up from the ground, kissing and hugging him.

He is then brought into the building (a woman is now holding the child) and sat down to rest. After making sure he is okay, the child is brought over and placed on his lap.

By this point, the poor stressed child is crying, but when he sees his father, he places his arms around him. I can't even imagine what this poor boy has been through.

Soon the baby calms down and the two are embracing.

If this doesn't activate your tear ducts, get thee to a doctor, stat! No matter how you feel about what is going on over there, the reality is that humans are humans, and this little boy and his father feel everything that parents and children of Sandy Hook or the Oklahoma tornado did.

Check out this touching reunion and hug your children tight today!

Are you following the war in Syria?

Search for Toddler Elaina Steinfurth Abruptly Switches to a Murder Investigation

Elaina SteinfurthIf you've followed the search for missing Ohio toddler Elaina Steinfurth, you know things haven't looked good from the beginning. It wasn't long after the 18-month-old disappeared that her mother was arrested, and just days later, Angela Mories Steinfurth admitted her daughter was dead. Now cops are saying it's true. The search for Elaina has officially become a homicide investigation.

The heartbreaking news doesn't mean they've found the little girl's body. In fact, they seem to be just as far from it as they were when the girl's mother was arrested.

But in order to keep Angela's boyfriend, Steven King, in jail on obstruction of justice charges, prosecutors dropped the homicide bombshell. They're not looking for the girl.

They're looking for her body.

It's ... well, it's heartbreaking. We always know when a child has been missing for more than a day that things aren't likely to turn out well, but it's human to hold out hope. You don't WANT a child to be dead. You want a miracle.

But miracles have been in short supply for Elaina's family. First her disappearance, then her mom's arrest, and finally King's. Nothing has gone right.

And now things aren't looking good for King.

He is still charged only with obstruction -- the same charge levied against Elaina's mother -- but a judge decided this week to keep one of the last people to see the little girl alive in jail on $250,000 bond. Unless he can come up with the money, he'll be in jail at least until August 15, the date of his next appearance in court.

Maybe by the time that happens, there will be some real answers for Elaina's family ... maybe even some answers from King.

Did you expect this outcome or were you still holding out hope that Elaina was alive?
