Lamar Odom Hires O.J. Simpson Lawyer for DUI Case but Is That Really Necessary?

Poor Lamar Odom. Things have gone from bad to worse for the NBA star. First he was dogged by rumors that he cheated on wife Khloe Kardashian, then claims that his marriage was over, followed by whispers that he was on crack. Crack!!! His recent DUI arrest didn't do much to squash all those nasty reports and the latest development won't be much help either. 

He has hired Robert Shapiro to represent him in his drunk driving case. That would be the same Robert Shapiro who was on OJ Simpson's legal dream team along with Robert Kardashian (Kris Jenner's ex and Kim, Khloe, Kourtney, and Rob's dad). In case you were living on Mars in the '90s, he helped the disgraced football player escape a guilty verdict in the murder trial for the deaths of ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. In fact, Shapiro may have taken the case after Kris convinced him to.

Is it just me or does that seem as though Lamar is going a little overboard with his legal defense? A DUI is serious, of course. But did he really need a guy famous for representing suspected murderers? You know Lamar is in a bad place if he feels like this is a necessary step.

I suppose he does have a lot to worry about if all those substance abuse rumors are true. He refused to take a sobriety test when he was pulled over, so his license was automatically suspended for a year. Reportedly, the police suspect he was using both drugs and alcohol. Word is, Shapiro will want him to plead no contest to one count of DUI so that he would just get probation.

If there is a monkey on his back, I just hope this is the wake-up call Lamar needs to seek help and get his life back on track.
